Tried to get a test drive a while back on a WRX and was told no because Im under 25. Asked again today and was offered to be taken for a drive in one but not actually drive myself. I persisted and used the "so I can walk in with £22k and buy one but cant test it first approach". 2 hours later a callback saying its been sorted and I can now drive it myself
Just in case some of you other young uns hit the same wall I did - keep at them and they'll realise you are a potential buyer and not some kid just wanting a spin in a flash car (a test pilot as the dealer called them).
Simon.

Being a young'un too this is quite interesting - did you have to slap down some cash/insurance etc or anything, or just jump straight in?
Did you bother with the whole 'dress well, turn up in a nice car...etc' shenanigans or not?

I turned up to test drive a P1 at 23, and they didnt bat an eyelid, didnt ask to see license or anything, insurnace etc was all covered.
shame, cos the car was pants, a total waste of my time.

Well its booked for Thurs at 1pm so I dont know yet - asked the chap what I needed to bring and he just said my driving licence so obviously no need to bring proof of earnings or similar. He said he had to clear it with his MD as the standard insurance doesnt cover under 25's so they have to be a tad cautious.
I will dress tidyish but I aint donning a suit if thats what u mean. Ill wangle the "im looking at an import" approach into the conversation and see what I get offered. Hes already told me about a Y reg 10k miler with a load of mods on it (leda, 18" OZ's, full SS exhaust, morettes etc) for £22k but unfortunately its in mica red and Im a WR blue or metallic silver man to be honest. Will reserve judgment until I see it.
