About the gang which tried to steal the Scoob in North London. Apparently they stole 3 cars and broke into 4 houses!

I have been asked by BBC to do an interview on the six o'clock news.

Good point Puff... the Impreza or other performance car/bike gets more attention as a "story" ... for one reason or the other, if someone nicks 4 Totoya Yaris's, it tends to go unnoticed by the press.

good luck Pete, the only thing that I can think of is possibly mentioning an organised protest over the current state of affairs, i.e. speed cameras are good business for the police, catching crooks isn't

"it's time for the government to start protecting motorists from real criminals rather than persecuting them"??? (bit strong perhaps?)
how about
"it's time to realise that the average performace car owner is a responsible, well trained ordinary member of the public who should be protected from these violent criminals"????
"it's time to look at the facts, admit the government's own figures which state that speeding is not the evil it is made out to be and start getting serious on violent crime against ordinary people, both in general and specifically, many of whom happen to own either performance cars or expensive cars."

Of course it's a difficuflt call because if you're too strong, you'll just alienate performance car owners from the "general public" even more than the government has already managed to do for us....

round my way in the south there havent been any thefts from houses but loads from car showrooms, straight through the showroom windows and gone in under three mins, mainly bmws, I feel for the people who have had there houses broken into and family/friends threatened,

Something along the lines of.....
Authorities/judicial systems need to tackle hard the current lawless wave of gun culture and violent car crimes, the problem will not go away whilst people can get away with these crimes so often, or be punished so lightly when they are caught.
How long will it be until vigilantes try to tackle the problem themselves?

Would be interesting to know if normal cars are targetted as well. If they are, then you could always over do it, get everybody in the country panicking about being carjacked, and then maybe some pressure would be put on in the right place to actually do something about these scum.

When these people are caught, they dont go to prison unless they are multiple offenders, and by that they have really offended hundreds of times.
The courts are not passing custodial sentances so where is the deterant.
The only way the government will take notice is if it was damaging them personally. Instead we all suffer through higher insurance costs. The government force us by law to insure our cars so we have no choice but to pay. There is no incentive for the insurers to help prevent this as they make a bigger % profit as premiums increase.
The emphasis is all wrong. The UK has the safest roads statistically of any nation yet we see speed cameras going up everywhere in the name of safety. It's just a money making exercise.
In the eyes of the government the car owner is a legitimate target and not someone who needs support. Britain is tired of this attitude.

Keep it short, cos they'll edit it down to a 10 sec comment even tho they'll interview you for about 30 mins. Make one key point, 2 max.
I gues they're doing it form a 'new way of stealing high performance cars - what should be done to combat it?' standpoint.
People obviously need to consider home security as well as car security, and to keep an eye out for suspcious bods.
You want to ask who else they're interviewing - that might help decide your answers

The rise in this type of crime is attributable to the fact that due to the way police resources are deployed they seem less able to deal with it and even when caught the punishments do not fit the crime. Many members of the general public feel less safe than they did ten years ago and effort and resources need to be appropriately directed to restore public confidence in Britain being a safe place to live. Until that happens the criminal fraternity will continue to thrive and more worryingly become more and more blase about the crimes they commit.

I would mention that many.many people are so desperate they are taking the law into their own hands and carrying weapons(even firearms) in the car and in the house to protect their property.
This will put seeds of doubt in any car jackers mind(does this driver have a gun?) and demonstrate that the situation is now so serious more police time must be put into it.
It also does'nt glamourise it, and sends a clear message that the scum won't have it all their own way.

The government should rethink its sentencing priorities before it realises it is encouraging the public to drive without insurance.
I think someone above was right, you want one damn good sentence. See if you can take all the arguments in this thread and glue them into one sentence (Because of a, b, c, the govt should rethink its priorities).
