if you get a replacement engine from the same year of car then it is a straight swap, the only difference maybe aircon. If you out an earlier engine in (say a 1992 wrx) then there are somethings that need to be swapped. Hopefully though its not your engine as per your other post

the earlier engines have individual coil packs, whereas yours I think will have a central coil pack and leads, cant remember everything but if you post in technical you will get the answers there

Your safest option is to just use the bare engine from the wrx, use your existing manifolds/ turbo etc.
Idealy get a phase 1.5 engine, but if need be a phase 1 will be fine, just be aware there may be more to swap over.
Your existing inlet manifold wont fit onto a phase 2 engine.
