Default 80mph+ vibe

i rarely go above the big 80mph but when i do it feels a bit viby is this normal in an 03wrx? could it be tracking on something like engine mounts. only happens in 4th and 5th as thats the sort of speed 80+ bit annoying in lower gars even at 4-5k it sill feels fair smooth when reving

Are your wheels all balanced up properly? Mine weren't and it vibrated like hell at motorway speeds.

Check the wheels are running true,as its not always the balance, when the wheels are being balanced check they are running true look for your self.

I have put it down to a warped disc - and have bought myself a new set, and fitting them tonight.

I will let you know if it resolves the problem.

i have the exact problem as you
My01 wrx
car vibrates on 70mph+
first it was the steering, now its the rear too, can feel it on the seats and the legs.

had the wheels balanced 3 times, and the tracking done, no difference,
also had a propshaft changed still the same .

Have you hit any pot holes etc recently?? Could be a buckled wheel/wheel balance/ bent driveshaft. i had a bent driveshaft in a 306 and the whole car/dash shook like it was gonna fall apart at 80ish the faster i went the worse it got. If it's a balance issue you should be able to drive through it..normally between 50 and 70mph it should wobble like hell then get better if i remember rightly??

Same issue for me on 2005 WRX.

It is absolutely fine and smooth until you hit 80mph where the steering begins to vibrate in your hands.

I wonder what it is, if so many WRX owners are experiencing the same thing at around the 80mph mark.

Hi Guys - I have just had my new brake discs fitted ( and pads ) , and it has improved the vibration loads.

I still have a ( very ) minor vibration coming through - but that is possibly down to wheels balancing.

A friend of mine had a similar problem on his Scooby - and it was cos he had put some cheap tyres on?? He changed the tyres - and no vibration to be seen.

Hope you all get it sorted, and keep us posted with any updates, or possible solutions.

Thanks,

Chris L

my front tyres are goodyear assymetrics
rears are eagle F1s.
not the wheels or tyres cos Paul (top bloke)from sheffield subaru services lent me his wheels to test made no difference,
my brakes are the 4 pot Brembos which was put on a few years ago,
going to a place on the 11th (yeah they're that busy) to see if they have any ideas
might be drive shaft?

I'd put money on it being a front wheel bearing, mine had the same problem, thought it was my wheels being out of balance but had them balanced and still did it.
Turned out to be my Nearside wheel bearing, although it had no play in it, but did squeek when turning.

Only problem is i've heard people having horrors with a knackered wheel bearing knackering the hub, so i bought a 2nd hand hub and had a new bearing pressed in, my hub was fine on inspection after removal, but better to be safe than sorry!

Could also be a driveshaft thats worn, or a slightly buckled wheel too.

My 53wrx had no vibes at all when i got it and it was fitted with bridgestone potenza's all round, i have since fitted a set of aftermarket alloys which have goodyear eagle f1 tyres and they vibrate at 90 then again at 120 and also vibrate under heavy braking. The wheels have been balanced and have brand new brake discs all round. Increasing tyre pressure reduces the vibe but i am sure it is the tyres/tread pattern.

update! the place that i went to (don't need booking mate just come along)
fobbed me off, (TWICE)
so i tried to go back to an *ex* scooby dealer, booked it, but on the day they said they really have no real way of testing or diagnosing it !

so i booked it with the "clinic"

I am now VERY FED UP!!!

i maybe considering selling my car afterwards and get something else, my main problen is the hassle of selling it, and the value of it
can someone look in my garage and estimate it? (without the ice cos will be putting stock back)

tyres are under a year old and have plenty of tread, the wheels have been balanced "3" times so i know its not that
