Might make the move back. Advice please
Hi guys. Ive had my evo7 for nearly twelve months. Thought id try one after owning 3 imprezas. Dont get me wrong awesome car, but ive been looking at the p1's again. I know im going to get a biased response on here, but what do you reckon? Should i, or shouldnt i? Opinions warmly appreciated, thanks.

I wouldn't buy a P1 over a 7. Glorified STI IMO, it's still only a classic too...
Ditch the 7 and get a TM ED 6
I'd be more tempted to buy a heavy modded classic for the P1 money and still have change. Or a blob STI???

My previous subarus were an L reg wrx, 03 sti prodrive and an Xreg uk turbo which i loved. Not sure if i would get another blob sti unless it was really, really nice. Hence me looking at the p1's.

The spec on my car is-
03/53 RS2 XT330 evo 7 in silver. Its done 38000 miles with FSH and im the second owner, had it since July last year. I bought it with 32000 miles on her and since then ive had it serviced twice which includes all fluids replaced. Also replaced the cambelt.
The mods ive carried out which includes what it came with are the following-
HKS induction kit including hardpipe kit.
Uprated ARP con rod bolts.
H&S straight through exhaust(decat) with 5" backbox.
Turbosmart VTA/Re-circ dump valve.
Front and back Hel braided brake hoses.
Uprated AX6 pads front and back.
Tein lowering springs with fast road geometry set up.
Carbon rear spoiler blade.
US style black rear lights.
Carbon rear spats.
Recently fitted two weeks ago a Helix organic clutch.
Ive had the car mapped by one of the most respected tuners on the MLR so its prob producing 370bhp, its very very quick.
All work has been carried out by Respected traders through the MLR.
Over all conditon, excellent.

Personally speaking - the only way I would go after my UK Bug STI, is something newage and JDM.
Certainly wouldn't swap a 7 for a P1.
(are these not the sort of biased replies you were expecting?!)

Love evos great cars. But they leave me a little cold ....especialy the noises the scoob makes. You just can beat it.
The ultimate - a well modified classic. It has guts character feel and sounds fantastic.
Later evos and subarus for that matter are ´´better cars...and can be more capable´´ but nothing quite involves me as a seriously modified classic. They just dont build cars like that anymore.
Go classic

I'd go for a P1 no doubt..
I admit I was once a bit of a P1 basher, ie I've gunned for the type R over the P1 in those 'p1 vs type r' threads but the type r gearing is a bit annoying and the dccd is a waste of time unless you drive on gravel or something (I own a version 5 type r and a UK spec turbo wagon) I much prefer the gearbox of the wagon, as I understand it the P1 has a longer 5th gear over the type r?
I can see why you may want to come back to a classic Impreza over the Evo, I've been there and come back myself. Last time I was looking for a new car I thought about a later evo (after owning pre evo 7's) but it lacked the fun feeling of a classic impreza. I've also driven an Evo 8 and really wasn't overly keen on that. Infact my mate who had the 8 actually went to a 6 after and loved it compared to the 8.
Only thing to do is make sure it's got a decent engine obviously..

Thanks for the comments. Funny enough the sway factor is the noise, i love the sound subarus make. The last impreza i had was a uk turbo and it sounded fantastic. My only concern if i go for the p1 is the reliability of the engine. Is it best to go for one thats had a rebuild?

If you want a classic I personally wouldn't go for a P1 over a V5/6 Type R V Ltd.
If you don't mind having 4 door or not prepared to pay "2 door tax" then a late STI RA (although I think V3 is the fastest "out of the box" classic)
If you don't mind having a 4 door and not precious about being able to say "Its an STI" then an RA would be even better. Just as fast if not faster and much cheaper to insure.
