how long to idle
hey just bought a 53 plate wrx...just quick question...is it best too let the car idle for about 30 seconds before pulling off whe you first start and let it idle for 30 before switching off?? i used drive escorts turbos years ago and always let the turbo spin down before turning of the ignition/.mate at work got a wrx and he just turns and goes off straght away..can this damage the turbo unit?

As long as you drive sensibly for a couple of mins before switch off you can cut the engine straight away.
If you have hammered it then stopped immediately, let it tick over for a while.

I always leave mine for a few minutes begore pulling off and don't floor it for another good 5 minutes or so.
With cooling down I always tend to let it idle for a couple of minutes before switching
off even if I was gently cruising the last couple of miles home. If you've been booting it
then yeah let it cool down before turning the ignition off without a doubt.

Hello Mate
Yeh general rule of thumb is allow to warm up before giving it some beans and then what i do if i've given it a bit before i go home is drive off boost for about a mile before i switch off or yes you can let it idle for about 1-2 mins if thats what you prefer.
regards
Nick

as skunk has said you can start the car up and go it will warm up quicker that way i just keep the revs under 3krpm for the first 5-6 miles then after let it idle for a minute after a spirited run.
