Default When are people going to get real with 2nd hand 6 speed prices

I can't understand in the current economic climate how people can expect £2000 for a 2nd hand STI 7 gearbox with 28 days warranty !!!

I mean the thing is 7 years old and prob done 100,000 miles

demand is correct unless your lucky, i got mine recently when i saw it listed on ebay.

uk version sti box from a 53plate £735 including linkage and propshaft only had to get myself a dif.

collected it before the end of the auction and bit his hand off.

my bargin of the year it works perfectly.

£2k for the gearbox alone is a bit steep, but with the prop, diff, driveshafts etc, then its not so bad.

speant ages looking for one myself as they were up at 2.5k for the box alone and managed to get one for 2k with linkage, prop and diff just seems to be the price and as said above if you want one for your car then you will be willing to pay the price same as the cost of a 321h or t £1500 for a blower and around 1k 2nd hand thing is if you want one you have to pay for it

A year and a half ago I paid £450 for my full 6 speed setup, but I was in the right place at the right time on snet. However £2k for the full setup is not over priced for a 6 speed box as it is bullet proof and great, if you get one with the longer ratios.

Yeah i appreciate that if it's from a hawkeye and low miles it's fair but an STI 7 is a bit long in the tooth to expect top dollar for especially with 28 day warrenty from the date of purchase !!!!

6 speeds are priced below straight cyt box's but as clsoe to them as people can get away with, if you got one for £800 then its gonna be a bargin, £450 who'd you steal it from? lol

also will depend on if its rebuilt or not

Yup, a steal at £3250

You could even go for the £4230 option with a LS front diff fitted

How about adding a prop, g/box mounting & gear selector mechanism to your order - Subaru would fleece you for a meer £5985

Phil

Given the current economic climate should you be wasting your money on buying car parts that aren't essential As stated above it is all about supply and demand, so if you want it you have to be willing to pay as much as the next chap or he will get it and you won't.

I think that is over priced for an old gear box as you say, but if the seller thinks he can get away with it as there obviously is a market then good for him. As you say we could all do with extra cash at the moment.
