Default Silly Question (to some)

Question: Am I spending money of my Type R to make it unreliable?

I am planning on De-catting, Uprated fuel pump and re-map with a new Simtek ECU.

BUT, although I am not expecting hugh power gains (310-320bhp I guess) I have been told I will be heading for a new gearbox etc due to breaking it

Its a V4 Sti with 42k on the clock, can someone shed some more light as I don't want to have to keep throwing money at it.

Thanks

Walton

Car is standard so far apart from center de-cat. My mod list is: Front de-cat, Fuel pump and re-map (simtek ECU)

Should I be looking at a 3 port boost solenold and boost controller too?

Is there anything else that doesn't cost the earth I should get before getting the map???

I don't think you need the fuel pump for 320bhp TBH. Why are you doing it, are you going to slowly mod the car?

If going for future mods, really at some point you'll need the fuel pump, then turbo, larger injectors, Newage TMIC or front mount etc etc.

Mine is at about 360-370bhp and drives nicer than standard, so it's money well spent. Oh, my gearbox went at 38k miles when at 300bhp - for no discernable reason!

My 2.5 STi 4 had 400/440 on the standard box with Simtek launch control launches like this: YouTube - Smeatharpe July 08 1/8th mile drag strip. Subaru WRX STI V Subaru WRX STI I've upgraded to the 6 speed now & I really don't know how long the STi box would have lasted, but it was just fine when I removed it. Your box should cope easily with the sort of torque you are talking about achieving
