Default Car choice so far

Ok guys, im stuck trying to choose my next car, i have narrowed it down slightly, but the more i look around, the more i like the look of.

So far the list is

2000-2001 BMW M5
2004-2005 Seat Leon Cupra R
2004 Ford Mondeo ST 220
Ford Focus ST
Version 4/5 STI Type R
Blob Eye WRX '04

This list is by no means exhausted.

I love the classic shape scoobs, but have been bashed a bit but their unreliability, so purhaps a newer car might be better.
I love the leons and they have great modding potential.
M5's....hmmmmmm

I have no idea which one i would like the best. Another option that might be available is to buy a cheaper newer car .e.g 5k on a leon Cupra R and spend the rest on a basic WRX classic to play with.

M5 without doubt, followed by the Focus ST or the Type R

I ran an insurance quote on it as i thought it was going to be off the scale and i was suprised...

£800 fully comp as me as a named driver, my wife as the main. WOW.
you have to be inpmressed with the 5.0L v8 Engine thought nly thing that worries me are the repair and maintenance costs of the BMW. have heard they are quite bad

Are you aware of the running costs of an elderly M5? Of your choice I'd go for the Seat and remap it or the WRX and mod it

no im not aware but thats what is worrying me.

I had a Cupra before and it was awesome.
But the Cupra R's could get 300 bhp out of it, before major work involved.

dunno what ya budget is to difficult to comment but like it or loath it to drive the sti7 are proper bargain motors at the minute, and with headlamps sorted they look ok. So if you could not stretch to a sti8 i would go the sti 7 route and put some nice subtle mods to it..sorted!

budget is around 8k. but yes, you can get a whole lot of car for the money with the STI 7. Just need to warm to them lights

The M5 is one heck of car and if it's on your list I think really it makes everything else redundant. Think you might find a slight difference in running costs between and M5 and a Seat Leon though

I've driven a Revo map Cupra R, and to be honest found it overpowered and the suspension was too soft. Quick once going though!

I agree on bugeye STI, either change the lights or let them grow on you. They are great value for money, if it's a choice between that or a blob WRX, I know I'd be far happier in the better car regardless of the headlights.

How would you feel if you bought an M5 for £8k then had a £3k bill 2 months later?

My thoughts

2000-2001 BMW M5 [awesome car if you can afford the running costs]
2004-2005 Seat Leon Cupra R [a fantastic alrounder once remapped]
2004 Ford Mondeo ST 220 [ not in the same league as the others]
Ford Focus ST [ a bit refined although a decent pedigree]
Version 4/5 STI Type R [ definitely my choice ]
Blob Eye WRX '04 [underpowered and needs all the STI bits on it, so buy an STI]

STI 7 is a great car. Go for Black or White and mod it to 350/350

M5 until the vanos goes **** up, then you have a seriously big bill but it is one hell of a car though running costs will be crippling

M5 replacement engine = 12K

The running costs really are in another league to anything else you've listed and that's without considering fuel, oil and tyres. Mine had a thirst for all three
On the plus side M5's don't really need any mods.

Beyond that you need to decide if you want a hot hatch or a proper performance car

Im a big fan of the Focus ST. You can pick a decent one up at £8k.

Ford : Tuned Panther Black 56 Plate 3 Door ST2 For Sale

Lots of modding potential together with good reliability. They really are bullet proof and the one above is only a few years old!

wow, thats nice.

Would have to get a specialist to check to see if it has been repaired ok.

Just been looking around and i may be able to get a blob STI. Some seem to be as cheap as 8K. That would be a winner if i could
