Default dealer parts price WTF

i all ways get my oil filters from the main dealers, and they have been around £6 +vat, and at the start of the year they were £6.40 +vat.

went in yesterday to get one, and it has gone up to £11.01 + vat!!! WTF??

i questioned the price, and they said it was right, i even checked my old recipts when i got home, and its the same part number etc.

no wonder everyone is poor with price jumps like that. they also said most parts has jumpted up alot in price.

i thought we were getting this % in tax cut to help everyone out, but the prices go up soooo much, it is just not worth it....

rant over

Imported parts prices have jumped as our pound goes down the plug hole, but a 70% price increase for a filter isn't justifiable though.
Try a Subaru specialist instead.

LOL, I know what you mean Ian, I think our local has always been OTT in the first place, realy pi$$s me off when I want a few bolts and gaskets and it costs stupid money.

I sometimes manage to get a bit of discount though

Just found this out myself.

Went in for my usual annual purchase of two oil filers and nearly fell on the floor when they said £24 something. I really though they'd made a mistake, but alas no..! In 12months they've gone up 100% from £5.99 to £12 FFS..!!!!

They recon since new car sales have bombed IM have shafted the parts in an effort to steal/make money..!

As they gave me some discount (paltry 10%) and needed a filter the next day I paid, but if anyone knows of anywhere selling genuine filters, at nearer the previous £6, I'd buy a few to keep in stock..!?

GB anyone..?

A lot of the price increases have risen in line with the exchange rate changes, some more, and some less.

If you think the oil pump is bad, the modines went from £126.00 to £199.00 + vat !!!

But now the exchange rate is slowly changing for the better, what's the betting the prices won't reflect this.

The problem with stock V cost/exchange rate, is that stock coming in now generally would have been paid for months ago, and it takes quite a while for better rates to filter through.

Personally, I won't sell, and certainly wouldn't use pattern parts.

If I sell you guys an OEM filter, and you have the misfortune to do a big end bearing, you won't be blaming me. If however, I sell you a pattern parts filter, telling you it's ok, and you do a bearing, you will make my life hell, regardless that it's more than likely a coincidence !!!

i wondered who would own up to this expecting the scooby police to jump down their throat. i got one myself last week £2.95, and i have my oil changes regular just for piece of mind more than anything else, + the car definately runs better with fresh oil. the guy who does this for me rallies scoobs and has about five that he does all the work on himself. when it comes to something like an oil filter he said they all do the same job. sometimes genuine parts are not all they are cracked up to be. ps i expect the subaru police to pounce on me now within the next 24hrs

If you're wincing over an extra fiver for the filter, why are you paying for someone to do the oil change ? It really is a doddle !

I wonder if Subaru are just re-boxing blueprint ones? ...my mechanic mate bought one in error (I already had an OEM one) so we checked them side by side & they were identical even down to the stamped markings, either very very good copies or they're being sourced from the same manufacturer?

Slightly off subject but another example of increases due to the exchange rate, last year I purchased a canon 24-105 L lens from warehouse express on a buy now pay 12 months later with no interest, I have just paid £714 for it, to buy the exact same lens now that I have just paid £714 for will cost you £943!!!!
Now that's an increase!

it's i.m not the dealer not only did they increase the prices but they also reduced the % the dealers get off so the price goes up and the dealer gets less profit, i.m is not very well liked at the minute in network

Not had to buy any spare parts for the Subaru yet but you try owning a 1986 Sierra Cosworth and if you can find the parts they are premium prices good when your selling though as you can get upto a £1000 for an uncracked dashboard

Lol, wait till you see them confronted with some heavily brake dusted alloys..!

I've see a guy at the local outfit got to the back of their unit, wrap a protective cloth around his hand and pull a scarf over his mouth and nose before carefully reaching for an innocuous looking spray bottle, which removed the brake dust on contact..!

I doubt very much that what ever the bottle contained was designed to 'clean' an alloy wheel nor for that matter to be used outside of a level 5 bio lab without a full NBC suit..!

Still, not as bad a IM robbing not only the owners but also the stealers with their extortionate price increases..!
