I started getting a small oil loss after fitting the TD05/20g and traced it to the crank case vent, as the inlet was pretty oily (head venting was clean).

I've fitted a catch tank which interrupts the crank vent and returns back to the inlet with no more oil loss as the catch tank gets emptied back.
Its mounted on the coolant filler tank.

There is a hose going from the PCV Tee to the inlet tube, next to the recirc hose.
I removed that hose and had the crank vent going to the catch tank and then returning back to the inlet hose.

for some reason i cant upload photos??
but i was going to say i thought the crank case breather was the top left rubber hose connected on the pipe attached to the intercooler??

looking at your photo it seems its not?
do you empty your catch tank manually?

cheers

The install you've linked to has the head breathers connected to a catch can via the pipe on the IC, but I don't get much (if any) oil lost through there.
I get most oil loss from the crank case main vent on the PCV system.

Once a month I take the can off and manually pour the contents back to the sump.

OT!: Butty,
What's those sensors on the front of the IC and coolant filler tank?

They're both pressure transducers for gauges.
IC is the boost and the other is for oil pressure.

all done

what alot of messing for such a simple job
while doing this i had a thought? does the crank case vent need to be connected to the air intake i see no reason why it coulnt be vented to atmosphere rather than putting dirty air back into the engine.

It is vented back into the inlet to reduce emissions. The oil vapours are then recirculated and burnt during the combustion process.

It could be vented to air, but I weighed up the hassle involved - a cap & clamp for the inlet connection and to avoid any odd losses of oil to the engine bay, a long hose woudl eb need to run behind the gearbox to dump fumes there.

The air return back to the inlet seems plenty clean if the catch tank is big enough and the oil build up is kept at bay, so I kept it simple.

When I tried that my VTA rocker cover vent vented a lot more oil,, so it seems the suction is good for evacuating gases from the crank case.
To those that wonders why there is a IM-pipe to complement the inlet vent. The inlet will have higher vacuum at all time (unless the turbo is totally shot), meaning the IM-pipe is there to save the turbo and IC from some of the oil coming from the crank case.

I've not made it clear that the PCV valve is still retained to draw crank fumes into the inlet when off boost.
