If it is the new shape M3 the obvious difference is £25,000.

If you are considering that buy an STi and an Elise/VX220 (or similar).

Supra TT should see the M3 off...

I find it hard to believe the impreza was lapping a supra twin tubo - an N/A yes - but a TT?

Im looking to get rid of my MY01 now and get an sti. All i want to know is have any of you guys raced the new M3 on or off track in you're new sti's or P1's? If so what was the result? You all have to admit the BM is one hell off a car. 345bhp!! Nice!!

cheers

Talking

Drove all three the other weekend to see which one I wanted.

For sheer grunt, the M3 leaves the others. I felt the UK STI and P1 were about the same performance wise, and road test show that to be the case.

Ive been on track with Scoobies, but my car was only just run in and I changed up early. The UK STI has not persuaded me to sell the M3 though. Now Ive got to know it, I'm having the best fun ever

Be interesting to see an M3 vs UK STI PPP though

Must be good then. :-)

The reason i ask is because i young boy, and i mean young has acquired a brand new M3 and every time he sees me, he knows he has one up on me in my MY01. I want something that can beat or even equal him for alot cheaper money if thats possible.

And the huge waiting list if you want a new one. A good benefit of that will be good depriciation.

Both are great cars but the prices are on very different levels.

The BMW is too subtle for my liking as doesnt look too much disimilar from a 3 series Coupe Sport.

In the right hands all the cars mentioned offer very similar levels of performance. The M3 more suited to dry environments with the RWD. But I think Birdy used to annoy most peeps with his l33t M3 driving skillz on the track

Surely for straight line performance The M3 would take the P1 and the Sti uk.

For a rough comparison to put things into perspective aka the additional £25k.

I have a MY94 UK car with a few mods and have never had trouble passing any M3s on track or beating them from a standstill on the road. Once rolling, say from above 60, then we are pretty evenly matched.

If you really want the BMW why not get a 330d and get something little and light for the fun side of driving!

I like scoobies but believe they just arent fast enough in a straight line. Off the mark, GREAT!! but through the gears. Poo!! I recently raced an M3 a while back. Still recovering now. He absolutely blew past me like i was still.

So mo you are telling me that you have raced M3s both old and New?

Easy decision here for you.

Buy a year old RS4.

Build quality of M3 but with AWD etc.

95% of M3 owners won't be impressed by any impreza, no matter how fast. The badge is just to crap and the reputation is becoming very boy-racer.
The RS4 would probably be better off the line, would be close anywhere in a straight line. But without some suspension work and new brakes it would get toasted on the twisties in the dry(comparing to the M3) The M3 slaughters the RS4 in magazine reviews. I think the majority of M3 owners are well aware they own one of the finest production cars available. Evo7 probably quicker point to point than the M3, but it;s still jap crap(from a german car owners point of view, not mine!).
Chins is in the 5% who may respect a fast scooby or evo, and not be put off by the badge.
Chuck
edit to add: I love my scoobies, and I'm keeping the 22B till I can't afford to insure it! Crap badge or not

Scrappy,

on track only the older model, I've driven on road with both the old and new M3 and it's as above.

I'm not saying by any means that the Impreza is a better car - far from it. I'm just trying to put the cost and difference in performance into perspective.

There is no chance then in your eyes? I agree the BM is a great car, probably the best but like chins said, put a PPP on the sti and it would be interesting, no doubt. I read on here a few days ago that subaru may claim output (ppp) of 320-330bhp, and as we know subarus are well cxapable of beating cars with alot more bhp then them so if these figures become real then the m3 is in for a hell of a match! We might even see the subarus overtaking them.

Mo, for the price the subaru is fantastic but if your car has beaten them then whats under the hood. The new M3 model produces approx 345bhp. Either your car is veru fast or he didnt put his foot down.???

I'd rather have a Boxster S for the money of an M3 but there we go.

Scrappy,

it's all about how the Impreza put's it's power down.

I think Stef got a sub five second 0-60 when his car was virtually standard, Moray had a very good 0-60 time from his STi.

I had two 5.1 second runs at Trax last year, both times I bounced off the limiter in first b 4 I realised that I had to change gear! Tosser springs to mind here

The BMs some what heavier as well. Big power aint everything - although I wouldn't mind 340bhp. My car has recorded 270bhp on the rollers so it's not big power at all.

After 80 odd mph, an M3 would blow away any Impreza. The 4WD system saps all the flywheel power, whereas the M3 flywheel is only driving 2 wheels.

Mk4 Supra Vs M3 is a better match, stock for stock!

Are the B4s 4WD? If so, they still can't touch a Supra TT or an M3!

Supra!!! don't think so. Nice lookers but heavy boulevard cruisers, not quick enough for this company.

Certainly seemed that way last weeknd at Brands where it was easy to lap a reasonably modified one about every 4 laps , including blowing past it on the straight several times. Check Pete 300's shots of it in the Member's gallery.

Oh and there was the previous model M3 there as well - also not quick, and lappable wet or dry.
