Anyone owned a Cossie and a Scooby?
#1
Apologies if this has been done before or recently.
Has anyone owned a Cossie in the past and then moved on to the
Scooby? I had a Cossie a while ago and really enjoyed owning it
but I think the Scooby is a more complete package.
Anyone have a view on this?
Mouser.

Yes. rwd Sapphire, '94 WRX. You call them the bargain basement models of the two manufacturers.
I thought that the Scooby probably was the more complete package, no major defiencies..I loved it. But the Sapphire just had that something extra that, and I missed that in the Scoob.
It could have been rwd, the fact that it looked sedate but went like a rocket, it's 100+mph performance (faster than the Scoob), the fact that it still demanded 100% concentration after 4 years.
If it were a choice between a similarly priced Scoob and Sapphire at around £6000, I'd go for the Scoob. But I intend on buying a budget Saf next £3000-£4000.

I have to say that I enjoy Driving the Scooby more than I ever did my last 2 Escort Cosworths, I don't know why but the Scooby has that did feel about it.
If I had driven one a couple of years ago, I would have had one alot sooner....

I'm feeling this post....my Saff is pure adrenolin,RWD cars are my cup of tea...add 350bhp...and its simply mind blowing going around country lanes and coming out of corners hard in 2nd...wow.....I personally wouldnt buy a Scooby for the fact i dont like 4wd and that is the only reason! In fact at gunpoint and i had to choose a 4wd car..and the choice was Scooby,Escos...i would go Scoob...There i said it,now erase from memory....

Scooby IS the better all round package IF left as standard.
Start modding them and the Scooby gets left in the dust for similar expenditure.
However, Scooby has the best 4-cylinder soundtrack in the world.
Cossie engine is the best for big power (but it is more course than Bernard manning, even when balanced, cammed, ported and basically hand-built with the ability to rev to 8200...).
Escort looks better. Shame the Ford 4wd system / transmission is so s h i t e.
At the end of the day, you pays ya money and makes your choice, as far as I am concerned 4wd is for girls - playing with Superbikes is where it's at....

I've driven an RB5 before (not full bore, but still gave it plenty)and I recently bought a 350bhp fire breathing 4x4 Sapphire after my 2.0glsi Sapphire war written off for me.
I was very impressed with the Scooby package and how easy it is to drive, but the Sapphire feels more raw and I personally feel it's more a drivers car.
I'm not taking anything away from the Scoob, but I think it's due to the fact in most cars circa 1990 didn't have the more modern refinements and electronic assistance you get today (or even 5 years ago)
Another reality is that my car was 1/3 the price of the same scoob :eek
All in all though .... I really miss rwd dispite a 33/67% f/r power split
Callum
P.S. I think Escort Cozzies are pants (sylistically)

At the end of the day I suppose it is down to personal choice. No
getting away from the fact that they are both great usable cars
with their own characteristics.

I know a few people who have owned both, not me unfortunately, and the one difference between the two, they say, has been the total reliability of the Scooby vs the total unreliability of the Cossie. Thats in std trim, add the factor of tuning the Cossie, and you get max grin factor + potential grenade factor, I know which one I would go for on a day to day basis.

why do the cossies seem to tune far more and for less money?
both use a 2 litre engine with a turbo. it dont make sense...
same goes for the evo why wont subaru do make an engine that is easy to add to etc......help

i had a 350 BHP 4x4 saph and it was off the road more than it was on it(fords are not reliable)the scoob handles better has less turbo lag and is a lot more fun on the road
yes the cossie was faster in s straight line but for B roads the scoob wins hands down
i had the cossie when i first drove the scoob and i could not beleve the handling of it
out went the cossie and in came the scoob and i have never looked back
a lot of my mates still have cossies and just cant keep up on B roads, they all have around 100 BHP on me and it pi$$es the off big time
its not all about power is it

Not had either but drove several.
The RWD saff is very nice to drive and most entertaining, the escort coss is awesome to drive, to scoob is very nice to drive but feels very cheap in comparison to the escort.
Cossies are easier to tune as its a 500bhp engine detuned.
The scoob is on the limit at 300 bhp.
Scoobs are good for grip and transmission losses but lack the 80-160mph pull of a cossie.
It really does depend what is required by the driver.
As for reliability, i know quite a few standard cars of each that have been very reliable and then very unreliable.
Modified scoobs seem to have just as much problems if not more that the cossie.
Plus the scoob engine is more expensive and doesn't fit into a MK 2 escort.
