Default Prodrive Reveals Gronholms Impreza

Exactly as the title says, Prodrive reveal Gronholms "new" Impreza ready for Rally Portugal...

Prodrive has unveiled the Impreza WRC car that Marcus Gronholm will drive at the Rally of Portugal. Gronholm will drive the test car in Wales this week, before undertaking a full two day pre-event test in Spain next week.

Two-times champion Gronholm hasn’t started a World Championship for nearly 16 months but Subaru is confident he will quickly settle in with the new car.

The Prodrive Impreza WRC2008 is basically the same car as the one used by the Subaru World Rally team last season but Prodrive has been limited as to the alterations it can make.

‘We have only been able to make minor changes to the car because of homologation restrictions, with the most significant difference being the Ohlins dampers,’ said Prodrive technical director, David Lapworth.

‘In a perfect world, Marcus would have had far more time behind the wheel, however, with his years of experience, I am absolutely confident he will very quickly find a rhythm in the Impreza.’

Gronholm’s participation has been thanks to the support of the Portuguese Tourist Board. The car has been entered under the Prodrive team name and it will be run out of the same service area as the Prodrive-supported Adapta World Rally Team.

Looks like a re badged Focus, not very interesting.

Whilst the Scoob has never tried to be a real smooth looker it always had purpose and looked like it might nick your lunch money if you looked at it wrong.

This looks like any other bland euro-box in shape with an average paint-job, nothing special looking- there lies the problem!

If it were painted blue and yellow, it would still be the poor performer Petter had to drive. It will be interesting to see whether Petter and Marcus end up in a dogfight for a points place. Potentially a better scrap than first and second, which I could probably give you right now!

To add to the one driven by Mads Ostberg which is already in the WRC you mean?

Real imaginative paint job! Looks like a Grp N. Strange decision by Gronholm, lets hope he doesn't get egg on his face.

Starting to harp back to the Subaru Legacy WRC cars;

Subaru WRCs cars were orginally very understated, and usually painted in white (with gold wheels ).

WRC blue and silly spoilers came about much later

Oh dear: that looks about as mean and fast as this base spec 1.5R model:

Remember that old motorsport saying: "If it looks right, it is right"?
