Hi all,

I am new here and my MY2001 WRX STI JPN spec is on its way here to Nassau, Bahamas. We are at sea level with normal midday temp of between 87 - 92 degress F and 100% humidity.

Will 98 RON be ok in my car ??

Can 98 RON do engine damage or will it just make me lose 5 - 10 bhp ??

We can only get USA octane boosters here. What are the ingredients I should look for in the boosters to make sure they will be ok in my JPN spec car ??

Can the boosters hurt my engine ???

Should I use one full container of booster per fillup ???

Thank you for the help and any other suggestions, mods, maintennace, run in etc for my JPN spec sti will be greatly appreciated (it is coming over with 300 miles on the odometer).

Cheers,
Ray

Well I run an STI 4 which is a Jap spec, hence mapped to run on 100..

We dont get that in the UK, but Super Unleaded / Shell Optimax is c.98 and for general pottering about that is no prob.. I believe the ECU will retard anyway so you should get less power overall..

If I'm going to be giving it a hard time I will put a bottle of bosster in (ingredients unknown) a tank which gives it anoth 1 to 1.5 RON. This gives me no problems as yet..

I have some minor mods, SS system + downpipe and KN57i and have got 300.5 bhp on the rollers with no sign of det/knock..

I'm coming over to the Bahamas beginning of April (to Paradise Is) might be good to see your car in all the glory of the surrondings !!

Ga22ar,

Thanks for the help....yea it should be arriving first week in April so you will have to let me know when you are coming.

I will have to see what octane boosters I can locate and add them when driving hard and just use the 98 RON for everyday driving.

Thanks again,
Ray

I use Millers Octane + and have done for some time, others have also used it with no complaints... I dont know what the equivalent is over in the US..

I'm over the first two weeks of April, staying at the Atlantis.. Any recommendations for days out for a young family (girl/boy 9/7) ??

Cheerio

Erm Jap Premium fuel minimum is 97.5RON so 98RON should have you within tollerences for the car... Most japanese cars run absolutely fine on 98Ron fuel, so scooby's don't but I understand the 2001 STI ECU is relatively sophisticated so should be fine.

It is a misconceptions that Japanse fuel is all 100RON, it isn't!

Excellent,

Thank you very much for the info. I hope you are correct ;-) I have other info backing up your theory as well so I may take the risk or just add a little octane booster every 4th or so fillup.

Cheers,
Ray

AFAIK, Jap fuel is available in 2 octane ratings: regular is RON97 and RON100 for super.
