Every track day I've been on have banned timing laps as it breaks their insurance cover. If you're found to be timing laps yourself you may get chucked off!

However, that's just track days I've been on - there may be a track day organiser in the UK that allows timing but I've not found them

Timing equipment invalidates the insurance for a TRACKDAY

Any people seen using Timing equipment are usually asked to leave the circuit

As above timing is a no no at track days. At some circuits this is taken so seriously that when we run the race car on a track day either for the purpose of track familiarisation or to give sponsors passenger rides I am cautious about even using my mobile phone on the pitwall in case the organisers think I am trying to sneakily time my car/driver.

However, in car video can later be analysed to estimate lap times...
