Is search being fixed?

because I am getting serioulsy bored of reading the same old threads again and again.
Particularly in drivetrain.
but then I suppose it does give the moderators something to do...

Adam, this has been asked before
FWIW, when the bbs was brought over to the new software, the new search was working just fine (as did the old search engine since Feb) ...
But, in certain, *very* specific conditions, a search would also "run away" a bit, causing the bbs to lock solid for other users for 1 to 2, possibly 3 minutes. I'm sure you remember the bbs lockups/double & triple posts etc... a few months back.
It took a while (actually it took serious time & effort) to find out what & why that happened, but I don't think SDB would appreciate me giving too much detail. Suffice to say that it was considered best to take search offline in the mean time.
It's one of the things on his plate to fix (although it could be a real b*tch to fix, not something you do in a few hours), but he has been known to be a bit busy lately.
Hope this explains it a bit.

Boultsy, that was four days ago, how the hell am I supposed to rememeber that far back?
Theo, thanks for explanation. Rest assured you could explain the whole thing to me, and it would make bugger difference as I would not have a clue what you are talking about.
Sure that some evil teccie could take advanatage though.

Markus, alas not.
This only works with bbs's where the threads are actually flat html files stored on the server, like ubb (and we had a good search engine for that ).
The new software is brilliant in it's speed (about 6.000 % faster actually!), ubb kept falling over, so we'll just have to live with the niggles until "da fat man" finds a spare moment
