Default buying p1 with 104k on the clock???

seen a p1 near me up for sale covered 104k but has full ssh, no engine rebuild, looks pretty mint but needs front bumper painted as quite a bit of stone chips, remap ecutek full prodrive stainless pipe panel filter, new 18" p1 rims in silver, looks really nice but bit worried about mileage, since most p1 have had a rebuild at some point, car is cheap, was up for £7650 now £6500. what do u guys think? 2 previous owners btw, stamped book and all receipts.

Get it thoroughly checked over as above, with that many miles the engine is not the only worry, suspension, brakes etc
P1's are not made to drive Miss Daisy so it will have had some hammer I expect.
If you have the build number go over to P1woc and see if there is any history on it.
Fantastic cars, bloody expensive but worth it.

If it's had an Ecutek remap then that might just be the reason why the engine hasn't gone bang. "Internet wisdom", however accurate (or not) that may be, has P1 and other STI engine failures linked to detonation at high rpm caused by too-low octane fuel.

If this car has such a high mileage, and no engine rebuild, I can only assume that this car was owned by a very sensible owner

There are some who people drive their imprezas as if they really are WRC cars (or at least try ), but we all know, that in the real world, a WRC engine is replaced every event or 2, thats why many "road going" impreza owners experience a blown engine or 2....

You gotta pay to play

Price seems a little high for the mileage though....

Get the car inspected if you buy it, things like ecu remaps help and you may as well buy a new maf sensor, they are about 100 quid.

Think i recognise the car from P1woc ... you up in scotland mate? Judging by the add, pics, details etc it looks mint and well loved. Nice brembo conversion all round aswell .... stone chips on the front are common even on much lower mileaged P1's. I agree with others that the remap may well have looked after the engine but also that its obviously been well maintained and driven sensibly.

It must surely have had a remap? I thought the P1 ECU was basically just a Jap Sti ECU with slightly more knock correction - but still not enough for UK fuel, meaning an engine failure was certain at some point?

It has had an ecutek remap as mentioned ...
Standard P1 ecu was not re-mapped over an original Jap sti ecu as you mention but had broquets fitted apparently to help with the lower uk octane issue

??? if they change the engines , actualy they rebuild them, it doesn't mean that they go bang.....
