On an MY03 WRX, if you are only going for 330 bhp I would save my money and stick with the TMIC. Much beyond that however and there is a definiate case for going FMIC.
Note this is for an MY03 WRX that this advice holds good. If it were a Classic of any description you are already well in to front mount territory. Early Classics were already in need of an FMIC at 280 bhp and even STi 6 needs an FMIC shortly after 300 bhp.
Subaru have improved the intercooling on these cars, model on model since 1993.
In giving this advice, bear in mind that I also sell Hybrid FMICs and have done so for many years.

Note that the ebay link says it should be professionally fitted.
Most Subaru owners are happy to fit their own FMICs

If you go for a larger TMIC then it might pay you to increase & optimise the feed to it as well.

Which means an STi sized scoop. ( Doesn't have to be carbon like mine )

And a STi sized under tray with splitter & larger rubber skirt. This is my Zero Sport one.

As fitted to my MY03 WRX Stealth Wagon.

All you need to know about TMICs.

Good information there.
Here is a quote from the article.

Overall, the STi intercoolers failed to live up to their reputation. Of those models tested here, none of the STi 'coolers gave any thermal advantage over the normal WRX part and their airflow advantage is miniscule. Swapping from a standard WRX intercooler to a STi version is a waste of time, but the STi feed pipe is an effective upgrade.
So those experts advocating the use of STi TMICs are not true experts afterall.

Hopefully, Autospeed will conduct a trial FMIC v TMIC but in the meantime read the results posted in the link at post 12 above. Post 141 on the link thread.
