Default Resonated or not?

Just wondering what difference is sound/noise there is if the centre section of the exhaust is de-resonated. Is it really noticable in volume?

Fitted unresonated to my 04 STi and the system is a little louder, you seem to hear it more in the cabin though.

Anyone got a sound or video clip of one on a Hawkeye?

I'm torn between the TSL and Revolution at the mo!

Cheers

If its just the 2.5" OEM replacement centre pipe with a resonator delete, go with the cheapest out of the known brands such as TSL, Revolution, H&S, afterburner etc etc. As a single exhaust part they are all much of a muchness and have little impact on the sound of the exhaust more the volume. You also get a sense through the accelerator that the car is revving more freely.

I had a 2.4" unresonated decat mid pipe on my classic along with a decat SS downpipe and T75 backbox and you could hear me coming for miles, it was incredibly loud and horrible, plus teh throbbing noise inthe cabin was aweful aswell I swapped the middle pipe for a resonated prodrive PPP pipe and the difference was enourmous and much more pleasent note.

Cheers for the replies. So would it make a difference with a remap? Power wise I mean. Like taking the CAT/s out makes it freer revving etc, I take it a resonated pipe although quieter would cause some restriction. But how much? Anyone know in hp terms?

Minimal/zero performance but it does feel easier through the accelerator. I found 2nd gear pull away less labouring for example post change.

I wouldn't compare resonator removal on a newage to a classic as the classic exhaust is far louder even when you are messing about with different back boxes. Whilst it makes a positive difference its far less impacting in terms of noise when removing on a newage to a classic.

I have a decatted up pipe, sports cat down pipe, ppp decat centre pipe with a H&S de res centre and a prodrive backbox on a 03WRX and it is not to loud at all, I think it is the backbox mainly that dictates the noise and the ppp box on my set up sounds about right.

Thats exactly the set-up I'm after once I get shot of my Revolution system. Reason for the questions is that where I stay there is a tw*t of a copper who hates scoobys and is doing as many as he can, so whilst trying to get the best out of the car, I want to make it as quiet as possible. Thinking putting a resonated centre in may make it that wee bitty quieter and with the prodrive box it won't look too large. Exit pipe that is.

If you want a resonated section (I have one), try and get a MY06 STi/WRX one as the silencer part is larger.

Cheers mate, I think I have one too but not sure. I got a standard STI back box and a centre section of an 04 I think, a while ago just incase I was forced to swap it cos of the a-hole copper. The centre part might be stainless but I'm not sure and has 2 silencer looking things on it. I try and put a pic up of it later today to show you.

exactly that

Fitted a de-res section to my PPP system and its slightly louder outside on idle, and quite a bit louder inside.

Great for me because i've only got a ppp box, but i imagine it would give you a headache on long journeys with something like a nur spec

I've had both and though the sound from the outside with the unresonated section was lovely, inside the car, you got this really annoying drone and noise levels at a cruise on the motorway rose dramatically.

If you use the car regularly, would strongly suggest resonated!!!!

Oh, so does the bit on the left split and come off then? So the pipe would come in two. I thought the cat pipe fitted on after this. I'll need to have a closer look when I get back.
