Default Calling classic experts.

Looking at getting another scoob, and off to see this one

Its a '97 Turbo 2000.

Can anyone spot any annomolies.. Been told that the steering wheel doesnt have an airbag which it should..
Also did the facelift front end come out on a P reg? What about the engine.. ? is it a newer style ?

Comments please

97 models had the earlier dash and the steering wheel looks right for that year as i believe the MOMO one came out on late 97 facelift models

Looks a tidy car though

Just noticed its a UK version so it should have 2 pots brakes at the front as standard as i believe these were introduced on the uk99 cars it should also come with austin allegro seats as standard as opposed to the much better bucket type seats of the imports and 99 cars but if its cheap enough go for it.

Ignore that ive just noticed the foglight under the rear bumper so it will be a pre facelift import which will have decent seats and 4 pot brakes

Right, there was a mixture of items on this car, which pointed at being more of an import than a UK car, but just ran a test and it turns out its been recorded CAT-C twice in its life.. :O surely that cant be good for it

The first thing that screams 'import' to me is the fact the rev counter is on the left of the dash readout, where as I'm 99.9% sure UK models have the speedometer there and the rev counter to the right - regardless of age.

No washers on the bumper and a rear fog light, no subaru lettering on the boot lid, the steering wheel, looks like one of the nardi ones, its a little blurred but also climate control? not available on uk cars (only manual air con)
WRX.

Shouldnt it have a rear wiper if it was an import ( or was that just the later models ? ).

To me it looks like a UK car that has had the Sti style rear lights fitted, hence the foglight under the bumper, and has been debadged to take the Subaru off the boot lid ( could even be a replacement boot lid if its been rear ended in the past, maybe thats why the lights were also changed ? ).

Dont think theres anything majorly wrong from the pics, just looks like a UK car someone has done some cosmetic alterations on ( tinted windows, pink badge on the front ) which isnt uncommon.

Would be more worried about the Cat C - if the seller hasnt disclosed this I would leave it and look for another.

It is UK car, the rev counter on sti 3 is on the right, the heater on my car has 3 dials this only has 2, single din stereo pocket, has a clock and the bright button, which I had to retro fit to my car.

Cat C twice!!! Never mind bad for the car.... It could be very bad for the wallet of whoever buys the thing.

Walk away, once around the corner, start running.

Look again, they are not STI lights, just normal WRX/UK Turbo 2000 lights. STI lights have clear indicators.

Check the sun visors for english or jap lettering. But yep agree with you all on the double cat-c.

Walk away......

I wouldnt touch a car thatd been a category C total loss twice: and I de-bunk most of the nonsense that people post about damaged cars here. In the current climate I cant see any argument in favour of it (unless youre about to seam weld it, multi-point it and rag it senseless on a stage somewhere?).

Nope; Rev counter on uk is on the left: MY97 UK turbo 2000

Something not right of that car anyway: Most features point to it being a UK car, execpt there is no drivers airbag (pedals and gearknob have been messed with, so it may have been swapped).

But what is iffy is the o/s rear light has no built in fog. Suggest to me its been in a rear -ender, and repaired with bits off a JDM car. (also boot lid doesn't align with the O/S/R quarter - hard to tell, but it looks like it).

If you look at the car, pull the carpet off behind the off-side rear light in the boot and have a nosey at the repairer's handy work

I'd agree with this, look at the pics or the rear, the boot doesnt line up with the top of the light properly.

Being honest, after owning a MY97 UK. The first thing I did was to swap that god-awful bus steering wheel for a Nardi off a WRX.

(refiitted the airbag wheel when I sold it though).

The biggest givaway will be the stalk controls, they are the opposite way around on an import

Engine bay looks as it should for a UK MY97 (correct intercooler, for that year UK car).

Apart from the missing timing belt cover

If its the correct engine, it should have piston slap when cold - will need to see engine numbers to know that though.

Okay, as everyone is having a guess....

Things that point to it being a UK:-
- Dash (clock positions, 'Bright' switch, slidey heater controller)
- Non-colour-coded door mirrors
- That 'little black bit' in front of the rear wheel on the bottom of the wheel arch.

However, there are some import bits:-
- Front bumper (no cut-outs for headlight washers)
- Rear lights (hence fog light)

I'm not sure, but the car has a post-facelift smooth rear bumper, should it have the original 'creased' version?

Oh yeah, and the boot doesn't look square - a bit worrying given that it's noticeable even in the poor quality pics!!

My 97 definatly and its got to be a uk car ,the front is the same as my old my97 the interior heater layout is diffrent not the same as a jdm and if i remember correctly the only jdm versions that didnt have a wiper were ras and it has a sunroof so it not an ra amongst other things to.

As for the rear lights there from an early import as my97 facelift cars had diffrent lights think there the same as the sti ones not sure.

should have an air bag to.

Id stay clear unless the price it right
