Default Taxi driver info

I am being made redundant in the next few months and was wondering if it’s viable to work for a company as a taxi driver? Willing to work long hours to support my family. Is there anyone on here who is a taxi driver that will tell me roughly how much take home pay I can expect ta.

All depends what hours you work really. Most taxi companys up here pay 40% of your takings so if your willing to work long hours you get more money.

A couple of my mates are taxi drivers.

One of my mates owns the car. He pays for everything insurance, fuel etc. And gives the private hire firm £60 a week.

The other uses the car the firm pay for everything but as you'd expect he wouldn't be taking home as much.

I've not gone into figures with them so couldn't say if they would take home £500 a week.

My mates lad was in a similar situation to yours. Went taxiing and said you'd spend half the day sat in the car waiting for a job you'd collect a £5'er for. Then you spend the weekend nights, when the most money can be made, dealing with pissed ********* the majority of the time.

Needless to say as soon as something in his regular trade cam up he was off.

What do you do?

Don't you need to have a driving job for 2 years as a Class 2 these days before you jump into Class 1?

no you do have to take your class 2 before your class 1 but you can do it the same day if you wanted to.

A mate of mine is a private hire driver, tells me that on a good week makes about £450, on a bad week about £250 - you have to be prepared to work weekends and put up with a lot of **** from drunks etc.

I personally couldn't do it....

Any idea of the cost of taking the class 1 and 2 test? Sounds expensive

I thought you had to drive a class 2 for so many years before you could drive a class 1.

the class 2 will cost you about £800, the class 1 as most of the training is in the class 2 will be about £500.

there are jobs driving class 1 always available especially if you are willing to drive abroad

There are schemes in certain areas of the country that will help you with the cost of the HGV training.
Check your local job center.
Hope you get on your feet soon......

I drive a Concrete mixer and take home £400 per week, it's job and finish, so Home for around 3 o clock most days sometimes even earlier, been in the house for about one o clock the last fortnight. Nice. petrol tanker drivers are on £36k+ per annum, that's my next career move, although difficult to get into.
