Moray

This happened to me at the beginning of December, I posted the full story then. I was fortunate to be in bed at the time and to get the car back with minor damage a few weeks later, the same night a BMW M5 was also taken, the police did say this is really common now, and I live in a low risk area.
Its a shame your friend has sold the car, I hope he regains his confidence soon, I still havent and have my Scooby parked at my parents, I use a Orion Ghia as a daily car now !

Moray.
Kindly pass on my sympathy to those concerned, nobody should be put through that!
At least he clearly had the sense to realise it IS just a car and he definitely did the right thing. I can't imagine what I'd do if someone tried to take CK1 away from me....Grrrrrrr

Stef.
PS What's this little £79 thing he had fitted? Anyone else got one?

This has been a regular occurrence in the North West for a while, one of the reasons for me buying a big dog that likes you to arrange an appointment before a visit, ask my twin brother and his sweat shirt with a hole in it !!! Pass all our sympathies on to your friend and his family and I hope they catch the scum soon before they try to wreck someone else's family life.

The thing is most of us believe this kind of stuff only happens on T.V. Thank anyones God you are all Ok. I would like to suggest 2. idea's

I would reccomend that if possible your security (sounds interesting, more details please guys) stops the car at least 10. min after. Put a bit of space between yourself and the *******s. They might think its worth coming back...... to see if you will be able to start car.

I have a mate in America. He has a add on to his alarm. One day he asked me to try to get in the car. seconds after getting in I can assure all I wanted out . You could never be in this car with this device working.
It does not electrocute Nor is it a load alarm . The chances are no one would ever find it. The thief could never prove it and there would be no marks on him.I would not know how legal it would be over here.(to own)
But Me believes "That we have the right to protect ourselves" . The law (not the Police) wont help. If caught They will prob say They were abused etc. Might even get a holiday out of it.
I will get one of these things sent over. But believe. They will leave your car.

Very sorry to hear what happened.

25 minutes to respond is a disgrace. Maybe the Midlands police need to rethink their policing strategy. I reckon they need to reduce the anount of resources spent on collecting revenue from motorists and start having response units ready for just such an emergency. Aggravated burglary, IMO, is a very serious crime that should get a very high priority. I bet even if the courts caught them, they would probably only get a couple of years. Grrr!

It's a sorry state when criminals can make you decide what car you drive.

Can't really add anymore to what has already been said. What you describe is shocking and disgusting in a supposedly civallised country. Best wishes to you and your family for a speedy recovery.

Hence the reason I've got a baseball bat by my bed. Not good when it comes to this.

Those fvckers should be burned for doing that to a family

At least he did the right thing. No material item is worth you or your families safety.
I hope I react in the same way if forced.

Unfortunately, I don't think a baseball bat would help against these kind of people.

With the amount of taxation we endure in this country and everything being a bloody luxury you'd think there would be some way to be protected by those out to make a quick hit and not caring how.

Moray, please pass on my sympathies...

I don't live all that far away from Bristol, and have already been warned about such gangs, almost two years ago.

To everyone else out there - Watch your backs. If you think you're being followed, do a diversionary route, hopefully on roads you know. Always use major routes that allow multiple exits - Never "box yourself in".

The police are trying to do what they can about this problem and had set up a special squad in the West Mids for the specific purpose. Wombat, I think it was called?!!

If you're driving and feel you've been followed for too long and you have a mobile, call them - Explain what you're driving and they'll help.

But hopefully a little more quickly then 25 minutes which is an utter disgrace.

Just to add my condolences to the list. It must be a terrible thing to have happen, but at least they are all OK.

I can only say that the blood sample would not have been a problem had they tried to take my car in that way, and the odds are they would not be causing anyone else the same problem for quite a while. Undoubtably I would end up in more trouble than they would, but I doubt that thought would cross my mind at the time.

** I am posting this on behalf of a fellow who for obvious reasons wishes to remain anonymous. **

Recently, myself and my family were the victims of an aggravated burglary by
3 hooded and gloved individuals. I will not give any details as it is too
painful to recall them, however suffice to say although I was assualted
during the incident, thankfully no lasting PHYSICAL damage has been done to
any member of the family.

The police took 25 minutes to respond to the 999 call made by my wife (the
target is apparently 4 minutes!). The burglars left NO forensic evidence at
the scene, being very careful to be wearing balaclavas, gloves and to speak
only enough to make their threats plain.

Under duress, I gave them the keys and they made off with the car, which was
recovered 6 hours afetr being taken. Even having only owned the scoob for 3
months, rather than risk another similar incident, I have decided to sell
it, the result being a LARGE financial loss. I loved by scoob and am
absolutely gutted to have had to sell it, however, now it is gone we will
sleep more soundly - my family's safety is more important than the car.

I wanted to pass on the following to the board members:

I will not identify where I live, suffice to say it is the in southern half
of the West Midlands!

1. There appears to be a gang committing burglaries to obtain the keys to
Scoobs and BMW M3's in the area. They are particularly nasty individuals and
quite prepared to use significant levels of violence to obtain the keys to
these cars. On the night my car was taken, there were 2 other similar
incidents where cars were taken.

2. They are professionals- they know how to leave no useful forensics at the
scene or in the recovered car.

3. My car was abandoned by the thieves approx 3 minutes after driving it
off, due to having an Autowatch Carback system fitted - well worth the £79
(fitted) cost if you want your car back.

4. These people are not easily intimidated, they continued their attack for
a good 3-4 minutes after we shouted to them that we had called 999.

5. If you have a house alarm - set it at night.

6. It seems we are unable to rely upon the police to take the safety of law
abiding citizens sufficiently seriously to respond quickly to a 999 call
where the operator could hear the caller was in a significant amount of
distress and in imminent danger of suffering a significant violent attack,
so keep something to "defend" yourself with close at hand in case you need
it.

7. Get a dog if you haven't got one - early warning helps. Also the bigger
and more belligerant to strangers the better.

8. The only forensic evidence which is useful according to the Scene of
crimes officer is the perpetrators BLOOD - DNA profiling and all that. How
you get a sample is up to the individual!

9. If you have overhead telephone lines, charge up your mobile phone and
take it to bed with you, they have been known to cut them before breaking
in.

11. Most of all remember that the safety of you and your family is
paramount - losing your car may be painful, but you will get over it - it is
taking me a long time, but I WILL get over it eventually, a member of your
family being seriously assualted would take a lot more getting over.

12. Enjoy your scoob while you can still insure it.

For myself, I am now the not very proud owner of a very slow and
undesireable faceless, understeering, underpowered, boring rep-mobile.

Moray,

as another West Midlander, please pass on the following to our Fellow ex-Scooby driver...

This is terrible, both the fact that you were robbed (bad enough), and the poor response by the Police (who _could_ have caught them red-handed!).

You didn't even get a chance to fight back, as your family were threatened as well - the feeling of helplessness must have made it even worse

And to cap it all, you no longer feel that you can enjoy what you worked hard to pay for - what is there to hope for?

If these sh*ts ever get caught, please post it on the BBS, so that we can ALL attend court as spectators (LOTS of us!).

If these sh*ts ever try to nick my Scooby, they will most certainly leave some DNA as evidence, as i will DIE (or go to prison for assault) rather than let them get away with it (and i hope that they are reading this!).

How these sh*ts can consider themselves as "professionals" is a joke. They are scum, violent scum, who don't deserve to share our air.

Anyway, dear Fellow, i hope that the non-physical scars are healing, and that you are managing to sleep soundly at night. Hopefully society will improve in the future, and you will again get a chance to enjoy a worry free car.

All the best,

Boomer

A BMW M5 was taken?

GULP! (Hope they don't come after my old crate!)

Moray, what can I say?... words fail me. My very best wishes to all involved. Hope you all recover from this horrific traumatic experience ASAP. I think the police response was pathetic... I'd follow up with some kind of action against the police response time (Maybe as a result, it might improve the local policing levels). Mind you, you night just want to forget all about it. One of my best mates is in the MET, and they have cut the numbers of bobbies for 3 consecutive years. They need more men!

Me? I'm leaving my keys next to the door, if they break in, they can have it (Unless its one guy...), and I hope they burn in hell for what they have done to these familys.

Erm, granted.

Oh sod it, I'm with BillBill on this one. I do not condone violence but the law is an *** on this one. Anyone gaining illegal entry into a domicile should be fully aware they waive their right to have their organs in their correct places.

Well, well, well....

Seems like the American solution to home invasion is not appreciated on this thread.

I submit my apologies if the shotgun/hand gun scenario and recipe were offensive.

I stand by my guns.
Give me the opportunity, when you invade my home, and I will totally rearrange your anatomy.

When you're as old as I am and been around as much as I have you will understand that nipping the problem in the bud is the solution.

When a criminal is permanently retired there is no longer a need for a cell in the local lockup.

Retire enough of them and taxes can be used for more constructive projects other than facilities for temporary incarceration.

Once again, I stand by my guns, both physically and verbally.

When you let a criminal get away with enough crimes it becomes a habbit and common place to him.

Knew of one whose last name was originally Schickelgrubber.

Carried his game a little to far also.

REMEMBER???
