Default should I tune it or sell it?

I've owned my MY99 Impreza turbo just under a year.

It was tested on a rolling road around 6 months ago at 254 bhp I think, but since then the car is running at 1.2 Bar instead of 1.0 bar and also has a full decat instead of a partial one. So it should be around the 260bhp mark now.

How much will I be looking at for an upgraded turbo, decent front mount plus a remap. Or will that put the internals/gearbox under too much stress?

cheers

Seriously though, ditch it and get an STI then just chuck the odd mod () at it then... To do the above on yours (wild guess) 1-1.5k?

Not sure I am understanding you though... Big BHP Impreza or an economical tractor!

See my Scooby.

They're pretty damn good at this level, but prepare to open your wallet......er make that open your bank account!

Have a word with David at APi and ask about the Ns04 upgrade!

If I tune it to around 300-350bhp I don't expect there to be an issue with power like I have at the moment. If my UK Impreza will need a ton of mods thrown at it to reach those levels though I don't think I'll bother. Otherwise I'd give in and get a diesel as it's particulary annoying getting 20mpg and not out accelerating the oil burning tin boxes

I know what your saying about the deisels, a buddy at my work has got a golf gttdi 150, he's had it mapped, and it's an animal, it's been de catted with a miltek R32 system, and it sounds sweet.
I've thought about selling my Scooby to buy a deisel, but wouldn't get what I wanted for it at the moment. Plus he gets 460 miles to a tank of juice, that's double what I get

I use a mazda6 ts2 for the week and tbh it gives more smiles per mile than the scoob.
plus it returns about 58mpg and with a certain little black box it gives a big ol grin on the chops.

Its not that crazy an idea imo and in the current economic climate its certainly worth considering.

From your initial post, I think you've already made up your mind. Get yourself a diesel

If you tune it to 300-350 bhp, 20 mpg will be out the window aswell

to get 300-350 out of a uk turbo ur looking at alot of money, to start with you will need either an apexi ecu fc or simalar, then u will need something like a vf34-35 turbo, 440cc injectors but i think your year has them in already, then the uk turbo gearbox will be close to limits at around 350hp, and your standard cluth, i reckon to get 350hp your looking at between 1.5-2.5k, thus the reason why im going to fit an sti engine and box into mine as i love my car too much.

My uk ran 313/300 and i very rarely saw less than 23mpg. When it was std at 215bhp i was lucky to see over 20mpg

already got an Apexi power fc, full decat, electronic boost controller and 440cc injectors (the MY99 has 440cc AFAIK).

I'm leaning towards getting a new turbo, front mount, Walbro and remap done and see how I get on. Other than the current 'lack' in performance I really like the car.

What bhp/ftlb are these mazdas. I had a 150bhp tdi passat a while ago and my bugeye wrx feels much quicker and fun.

Mine at 322/285 is going to give me about 20 I think. Around about 200-220 miles from the tank so I would of thought about 20mpg?

When mine was a 2 litre it was making 300/300 with a VF28 & the same mods as you. Then the engine went bang while a certain well known mapper was doing the business. My advice is, be prepared to spend some serious cash if things go wrong. Now I've got a new engine & box I wouldn't want to sell the car, but if I had to do it over again I'd buy an STi type R or a newage STi.

New diseasals are pretty good, but I suspect you will miss the car if you sell it.

I don't mind if the fuel economy on mine gets any worse, as long as the performance is a lot better. What makes it annoying is that you sacrifice a lot of money in super unleaded petrol plus servicing and high insurance costs and don't leave some 2.0 turbo diesel cars for dead.

Has any one got any ideas which turbo/FMIC I would be best suited with for around 320bhp? I like the spec on NS04's car

Does it feel a 'step up' from the TD04 turbo? Any ideas what price I'd be looking at for a VF35, FMIC and plus another remap?

It does feel a step up. The td04 was running out of breath past 6k where the 35 pulls hard to the red line.
I would think you could source a 35 for £150-£200 (haven't looked a prices recently). Harvey does fmic's for around £200 (again, haven't checked.). I don't have a clue how much it is to do a PFC but there you go
