What MPG to expect from a Standard V8 STI

What MPG to expect from a Standard V8 STI
Hi..
Still looking for a STi..
I started driving a different way to work as my office moved...
I travel from Pitsea to Wanstead
I go through country lanes to the A127 Upminster turn off and pickup the M25 at the then travel to the along the M25 to the M11 then up to the A406..
So it probably a 25/75% mixed on country lane and motorways..
If in a STi I had fun along the lanes then left it in 6th below 3000rpm on the motorway plus a bit of stop and start traffic...
any idea what sort of MPG I would get...
I know it a bit of a awkward one to anwser but any thoughts...

Hi Ian,
Difficult one to answer but I reckon you'll be lucky to get anything more than 22-24mpg.
As an indicator I've just done 248 miles on 50 litres, ~30 miles per day during the week.
(2/3 motorway and 1/3 city driving and taking it pretty easy)

Hi,
Not a Scoob owner any more, but I ran a classic WRX for 6 years, and driving like miss bl**dy daisey, I couldn't get any better than 25mpg. Averaging it out over the 6 years, i got just under 20 to the gallon - and did 80,000 miles. That's why I aint got one any more !!!!
Fantastic cars (nearly all versions) and smile factor per mile MORE THAN makes up for low MPG. If I were honest, the scoob mpg against the performance, is down on a lot of stuff that is only a little slower, (but returns 35 mpg plus in the hands of a good driver), IMHO. But then thats the shortcomings of the boxer engine.
If you are wondering about mpg, the scoob is not for you to be honest. You need to be seriously committed to ownership, and have relatively deep pockets. I ran mine on a really tight budget - servicing and repairing myself - even the petrol & Insurance alone makes a big hole.
If you do get one - enjoy, but go in with your eyes open !

Exactly the 106 stupidly cheap to run...and it's good condition

Cars like the Golf GTI claim to do 35mpg, but if you go on the owners sites, most get a lot less than 30. Even the Focus ST averages under 25mpg in normal conditions.
To get much better mpg and still have some fun, you need a high power diesel like in some BMWs.

completely fill your tank (til it clicks off), do 1 day's travel and record the miles done exactly, fill it again(again, til pump clicks off). the amount you can physically get back in the tank HAS to be the amount you used!
sooooo the amount of miles in that days use, divided by petrol used in litres(not pounds spent). this amount then multiplies by 4.5(roughly-near enough anyway) changes it to miles per gallon IIRC
so say 25 miles in 1 day, 5 litres petrol used..= 25/5 x4.5 =22.5 miles per gallon.
if you're that bothered lol. on a run on the motorway i get about 26 per gallon, normally about 20, and hardish driving about 17

What about when you start modding say up to 330Bhp does the MPG get better or worse on normal driving...
Also the Subaru dealer told me a 2003 STi with PPP would do 30Mpg easy lol..

in theory it should improve as mapping them leans them out a bit,so should use a bit less. mine isnt mapped so cant give any 1st hand evidence

My WRX blobeye was doing about 26mpg with a full induction kit on it, was told that the induction kit proberbly wasnt the best thing and that a green cotton panel filter would be better for the state of tune of my car so I bought one and fitted it, its no quicker much quieter and is now doing 22mph moral of the storey listen only to people who really know!!!

Sure, it was a Renault, and I am not saying for one minute, that it is the same driving experience as a scoob (sound, looks, bla bla), but in raw terms, performance / mpg package, it is a no brainer tbh.
Before performance figures and bhp start getting spouted off, I'm talking real world driving here, where once you are moving, driver ability makes almost all the difference for reasonbly quick cars. He once had an M3 driver pull over to let him pass at +100mph on a country lane, after a ten mile dice - as I said, reckless and stupid, but quick also.
Not knocking Scoobies - love 'em to bits, just waiting to have some fuller pockets before jumping into ownership again. Would probably consider a quicker version and stick to weekend use to be honest - makes more sense if you can afford it.

The one that sprang to mind was a mates 182 Clio - he had a 172 also before that, which was almost as good. He could get from A to B as quickly as almost anybody, and thrashed the living daylights out of it - he is an extremely quick driver (reckless in fact usually) but used to return figures of 35 mpg, which when compared with my driving in my scoob, at same speed getting -20mpg, was a huge difference.

By the way, the official fuel figure for the current Clio 197 is 31.7 and we all know that no-one can really achieve these claims. (There is an article in this month's TG about it).

Fair comment, but I always compare the Scoob to a car that can seat 4/5 in comfort and take luggage (hence the Golf/Focus comments). If you don't need the size, then that opens the door to lots of very small and very light fun cars.

in town i get about 180/200 tops,,, but did 170miles the other day on the motoway and used just over half a tank this was at 2.5k revs and 60/65mph
couldnt drive like that all the time tho as it did my head in
