Hi all,
Unfortunately we have been let down badly by the owners of Alconbury, who have gone back on an agreement reached early in January to host the event there. We had agreement to run at weekends and with limited spectating. Basically they have now gone back on the deal, and insist we can only run the event Mon-Fri, and with no one on site to spectate.

As Mon – Fri is probably not acceptable to a lot of people, I have had no option but to cancel and move venue. Spectating isn’t really an issue, if we have it fair enough, it would be nice to open it up, but its not a priority, and we do not need it to cover costs. (There are crowd control measures in place if needed for spectating.)

Therefore over the last few days I have been busy organising alternative venues for the same date as 27th July.
The most likely venue in the same midlands/southern area, with similar facilities, is Bentwaters airfield. This has now been provisionally booked. The format will remain the same wherever we go, in ½ mile drag racing and top speed on a separate area, with a full trackday event run alongside.
Bentwaters is ideal for this in that it also has a 1.5-mile runway that is not needed for the track itself, and therefore it is likely that we will go ahead with it if agreeable to you.
Bentwaters is used successfully by Bookatrack, and many of you may have already been there for a trackday. Its is located in Suffolk, and is fairly reasonable for access etc.
(You can see venue maps and review on www.bookatrack.com)

The other alternative venue was Elvington, nr York. This airfield has a longer runway; we used it in October 2001 to good effect. Top speed runs could also be held to 1.75 or 2 miles length, with safe braking afterwards. The only downside is that it is quite far north, and may not suit the majority.
I now need some input from you and your ten car owners as to preferred venue. Bentwaters is my first choice, but I need confirmation of support from you to whichever venue is chosen.

Date will be the same, as will cost, and it may be that spectating could be allowed in limited numbers of 10-30 people per club, but that will be agreed later. The emphasis as ever is on the cars taking part and enjoyment of the day.

We already have confirmation of entry and cars from the following groups:

200plus, Skyline, GTI-R, RS Cosworth, RS turbo, Vipers, Subaru Imprezas, Rover Turbos. I also have some superb Evos and other cars sorted, including a Diablo and two 1000bhp-drag cars.
We therefore have enough cars, of superb quality, to go ahead with any venue that is acceptable.
To host it at anything other than a large airfield venue will be almost impossibleI can reassure you that the event will be run by an experienced track/timing event company for us, and will be properly marshalled etc, with catering and safety (ambulance cover etc) in place as always. the video shoot etc is also confirmed, and will make some superb footage !!!
(Text Borrowed from the organisers e-mail )
Regards
Simon

No problem Paul, sorry to hear you no longer own a scoob
We are not sure yet of how many spectator tickets will be available, but there will be enough to go round to all the people who have requested them,(participants first mind you!)
So it seems Bentwaters is favourite then!
From what I have been told Bentwaters will be a better surface anyway

hi chaps
hoping to get confirmation on bentwaters for you all by end of next week.Elvington is also great, got 2.5mile flat runway, genuine top speed runs possible, but it may be a bit far north for some. bentwaters may be less on top speed, but better for the track action!

had the owner of the lamorghini club UK ask for upto ten places as well, this could get v interesting! definitely got a few diablos coming!

simon H has also been asked to get 10-20 cars who would be up for a track only day with us, with the same groups, later in september, probably at bedford autodrome. cost £150 ish all in.
let him/me know if you fancy a dedicated track day with the same clubs/groups

simon/rest
cant 100% promise spectating as yet, but a list would be good. may have to limit numbers still as the airfields all have little in way of spectator viewing points etc, and hundreds of cars turning up will create probs, but first chance will go to participating clubs etc.

Is it true what I heard about this event:

Scooby owners want servicing and running costs of the cars taken into consideration and also how much is each car is worth
