Default WRX OR STI

hi guys and gals, im looking into buying a blob eye scooby but dont know what version is the better one to go for. I like the wr1 but dont want to spend that much ( cant afford to spend that much) for one. amount looking to spend is £8500 max. which is the better car in terms of tuning and straight out of the box performance.

i want to get it to a stage were it looks nice like the wr1 and will beat my friends cars.

vectra with a c20let tuned to around 300bhp ( shouldnt be hard )
r5 turbo 213bhp runs 13.7 1/4s
r5 turbo 200bhp ran 13.5 1/4
evo fq330 tuned to around 400bhp ( his brother zuby had a ppp blob eye in black)

that just examples of what im up against.

saw a vid of top gear fq320 against wr1 and the wr1 was 3 seconds a lap slower, put me of abit on getting a scooby, but a m8 has a black wrx and i like it lol

I got a 03' WRX from car people for £8000, it's had the PPP done but has other mods too. No other STI or WRX has touched it yet. An evo 8 beat me (to 60 of course) but don't know what FQ it was.

Think WRX's are good for 330-350bhp without serious internal mods and the STI about 430-450bhp.

I'd go STi - wish I had now but spent too much on my WRX to swap over now. Try looking for a JDM STi, especially the twin scroll.

sti mate, you've then already got a head start with gearbox, turbo, brakes.

Suspension is better, although most will upgrade more.

Simple de cat and remap and you'll have 330-350bhp.

I'm sure you could pick up 03 sti's around that price

STI mate, i bought a bugeye WRX brand new and was well pleased as it was my first"real" performance car.

Once i started getting into the Subaru scene i wished all along i had went for a STI as i spent a fortune on the WRX.

If its just about beating your mates maybe you should get a souped up Nova, Astra etc(only joking)

A WRX would not get past them noticably and a STI would be on a par at least with them.

Although I'd like to say STI, that 2.5 hawk-eye is ideal, just add bigger brakes and you'll be sorted.

Bought a brand new 04 WRX and loved it to bits, Spent quite a bit on her trying to turn it in to something that it would never be an STi, Bit the bullet and bought a hawkeye 3 months ago, I'll never swop it! If your budget can stretch to an STi then do it, think long term because when you have some spare cash you will start modding.

I wish someone had given me this advice when I started looking at Scoobs.

had both too, 04 wrx running 320bhp and now 05sti running 340-350bp....my opinion sti all the way. Better interior more tuning potential, 6gears etc....however i prefer the wrx side skirts over the sti, they flow better with the cars front and back bumpers but hey thats not reason enough to chose the rex over the sti

the sti styling is better i agree, just a matter of getting funds together.

JP4 thanks for the message m8 and ive sent ya one back.

my m8s keep having a laugh at me coz at mo i have a 1.6 seat leon as a family car ( which is broke at mo) so about time i got another quick car but still use as a family car.

this is the 213bhp r5 he cant get traction its an animal lol

i thought i had pics of the other cars but i havent. the vectra was a gsi but the v6 let go so he had a c20let dropped in and paid the guy £3k to do it, that includes engine and gearbox, then he spent another £3k for bits so me and one of his m8s could rebuild it and redo all the wiring that the bloke messed up. the 200bhp r5 is a phase one on 15s that has been featured in performance french cars but now has efi injection and is a lot quicker so hope he runs hi 12s
play when i get the car is to buy the bits i need and attack the car in one hit and aim for 400bhp i dont want to go crazy on it.
