Question on plates...
#1
Another request for help please.
I know you are not allowed to mis space letters / use wrong font, but where does the law stand on the graphics on the sides of plates ? Also, are there any rules on where a plate has to be - ie, on the front, can I opt for a stick on plate on the lower vallance of the front spoiler ? Any pictures around of what other people have done (legally ?!?!).
Help appreciated as always.

I was pulled over by the police a month ago for a loud exhaust but while I was chatting to the copper I asked about having a stick on plate on my front valance, he reckoned it would be illegal but didn't seen 100% sure!

I don't know whether that is legal either, but the Scooby world rally team's regs are stick on ones, and they drive them on the road. Unless they have a special exemption.
With regard to graphics on the side, there is a thread on here somewhere discussing having scooby do graphics at the left hand side of plates and the consensus was that a few people have been stopped for other things and were told it was ok. I did read an article recently saying that Individual country flags such as England etc were now allowed by the DVLA, instead of the EU flag.

Amazing, I was just about to post on this very same topic. I saw a silver Scooby in Carlisle a few weeks back with plate stuck on the spoiler below the lower grill, and it looked really good. I have the deeper Prodrive lower spoiler fitted and was wanting to do the same as above, but did wonder about the legallity. Is there a minimum height I wonder.
I do also have a Caterham, and alot of those have their plate stuck on the nose cone to allow more ground clearance. General feeling is that the plate has to be positioned on a flat surface with no deflections that will distort the numbers on the plate. So, I would imagine if the the Caterham complies with this,
then the positioning of a plate on the lower spoiler of the Scooby will be OK. Any further thoughts on this subject, and does anyone have a contact number to supply these stick on plates.

I was at Caterham around Christmas for a meeting with the Technical Director and he said that they are not allowed to use sticker plates as the plate MUST be vertically positioned.
If you need a sticker plate I can help. I've done quite a few for Scoobys with no reported issues.
Have a look here to get an idea.........

Legally you can only have...union flag, euro flag and GB on the side of the plate. At the mo the scotish and welsh flags are still illegal i think!!
Also on the WRC cars they have to have full size plates when they come over for the network Q... only the subarus still stick them to the lowwer lip spoiler though, the other teams run full size bumper mounted plates!

Thanks for that Iain. One of the guys on the 7 web site says he runs without a front plate, keeps it in the boot, and, when stopped, claims that it has recently come adrift after bumping the kerb, and will be fixed as soon as poss. Sounds very plausable considering the proximetry of the plate to the pavement on 7's. He's got away with it for 18 months up to now.

I got pulled last week.
and was reminded that the plates below were illegal
He remarked how nice the car was and said keep the speed down as I don't suppose your going to change the plates
