I know the WRX has it, but what advantage does it give over the systems from VW/Audi ?

Increased fuel consumption and increased rear tyre wear.

<Muppet> Couldn't you turn an a3 / TT system round so it was rwd, and only put torque forward when the rear wheels spin (skyline?)

Hell, with the shape of the TT, you could just fiddle with the gearbox, and drive backwards

P.S. Sorry if that's too muppet like for a general forum...

Surely we can do better than this. Perhaps if I had mentioned that I want to know so I can wax lyrical to some TT boys about their inferior system.

Any more ?

Well,

The Torsen diff that the Scoob has is constantly sending power to all four wheels which means that the reaction of the 4WD systemf is instant. This makes it better on snow, mud and ice. In the dry and wet the Haldex like on my S3 is good because it is lighter and disengages after 60mph so you effectively get FWD acceleration with 4WD traction. Also you get a very big improvement on economy as fuel is not constantly wasted by constantly sending power to all four wheels.

Both have advantages and disadvantages!

Question

Surely you want RWD acceleration rather than FWD?

I am not sure about the Torsen on most Scoobies - I thought it was a viscous coupling on the UK specs at least.

No Torsen on Scoobies.

Centre & rear viscous coupling LSD, front diff open on UK model.
