Default Advice on buying an Import

I've previously owned 2 impreza's, both UK cars and I've been to see an freshly imported Type-R version 5 today, it's being registed for UK early in January. The thing is, I've looked round the car, started it up, put it into all the gears etc (not driven it as it was wedged in at the back) and it all seems ok, has a few sensible mods on it, no rust and looked accident free.

The car has no previous history however and has done around 60k miles. It didn't have the original Subaru key either. Should I be worried or just buy the thing?

Ask to see all the documentation with the car, if its freshly imported it should have an auction sheet stating its condition, accident damage etc. Did they say why it doesnt have service history, lost or doesnt have it? Is it cheap? If you have any doubts at all mate walk, its an expensive mistake to make otherwise, and there are plenty about .

Thanks, I'll ask about the documentation. Now you've said it, I should of asked before but I was being dumb! It is cheap for a V5, about £1k cheaper than the others I've seen advertised, so the alarm bells are ringing in that department. Also they won't change the clocks from KPH to MPH, not sure if that's good either.

It's a small backstreet dealer in Leicester who seems to have about 15 import cars. I'd gladly post the link to the car but someone else might buy it from under my nose

Haha, i was gonna see if it was the same place i bought mine from, top bunch, i didnt even view it, got a stack of photos, asked enough questions and then they delivered up to me

That was 2 months+ ago and all is well.

In general cars that come from japan are better looked after and in better nick, this is due to their culture of actually respecting stuff (unlike the chav b3llends we get here) and they dont use salt on the roads in winter. Mine was utterly pristine when it came off the boat, i guess it will need undersealed which is a shame but it lets you see how good it is.

If it all checks out i say go for it man, i saved a packet and there was no history with it, there usually isnt so it never phased me, passed its MOT with flying colours which coupled with all the pics and info was good enough for me.

Its my 2nd type R, awesome cars, you wont regret it
