What are you after ?

Things to check when importing, or comparisons between import and UK.

not sure about ten things- was a long time ago! Most are commonsense..

1) Only pay money direct to the car supplier i.e. garage (harder for your money to be pinched. Do it by international bankers draft or electronic bank transfer

2)Make sure you are getting what you think you are e.g. I thought I'd ordered Mica blue. I didn't know that they do the rally blue too abroad! Guess what colour I got! Still I prefer it now.

3) Don't bother with a foreign alarm. It prolly won't be on the Cat 1 list here. Get one fitted in the UK.

4) Don't pay the balance until you collect the car and everything is OK.(I took a draft).

5)It could be less hassle to go through an agent if it's your first time. You normally pay a fee and they do all your paperwork. I used

Now as a newbie you may find all this quite disturbing - but what the hell, lets get this thread on fire

DONT run on Gold Wheels (very tacky and say all the wrong things about you - unless you are a member of the pop group 'Village People' of course)

DO give a lovely, kind, UK dealer all your money for a UK spec car - you will get top dollar come re-sale.

DONT even go anywhere near a 'grey' import - no need to - there are plenty of UK scoobies in the trader now.

DO keep the car as standard as Subaru meant it to be - it will not blow engines and will keep your precious warranty intact.

DONT play with yourself as it really does make you go blind - now, wheres that white stick of mine??

In the end - do what you want and enjoy the best car money can buy - blue, grey, jap or UK

1. Ignore pslewis if you want too, he can't even pack his trailer properly

2. If you want a faster better specced car and are prepared to take the risk come resale time buy a Japanese grey

3. now for the fun bits - if you have a warrenty to protect talk to your dealer, a lot will allow breathing mods (exhaust, filter)

4. Favorite ECU mod right now is the Link ECU

5. If running a Jap spec car 97RON essential on later cars

er fed up now I'll think up some later

thought of one If you like Gold wheels put on gold wheels , if you don't, don't its that simple

Above all think about your image.

You could have

a, Mean Turbo with Gold wheels just like the Prodrive World Rally Cars.

or

b, Fit a tow bar and tow a trailer with a 60mph sticker on the back.

Above all else the best advice so far has been to ignore pslewis.

PSLEWIS, I have a Sti and yes it has Gold wheels (soon to be 17'Gold wheels) Plenty of people look at my car and believe me they don't laugh behind my back. Even though all they mainly see is the back of my 555.
Luke, the spec differance is about the only thing you'll notice, I go to track days with Logiclee and Salsa-King who both have UK cars and the power differance isn't noticable. I have a 280BHP As standard (mine isn't standard though) And the UK cars have Between 205 & 215BPH.
All i can say is look at both and drive both then make your own mind up.
pslewis Logiclee dosen't have gold wheels actually! you sound abit of a novice do you have to practise?

Cool

Dave T-S LOL

Gold 17's..... its the only way for me (and my village people buddies!)

Luke, if you're asking about mods, a full exhaust system plus Induction kit will free up a lot of extra power. On UK cars I know theres an issue with warranties but if you buy Japanese( ) you can tweak to your hearts content!

Some friends have the full Scoobysport system fitted to their UK cars and they're very happy with it.

I had a Mongoose de-cat system fitted along with an HKS Induction kit and received a power hike of 41 bhp on the rolling road!

Have fun whichever route you take.

Ben

(Edited to say that I have a WRX and I'm VERY happy with it! Never had a problem with servicing or parts and I don't panic about a warranty or re-sale values when I modify it )

Talking

I bought a UK spec right hand drive car from Europe and saved a fortune.

Pete's just bitter

In all seriousness, if you're looking for a new UK spec car at a discount, then there's plenty of places to try. I went direct to an excellent dealer in Holland (Gertjan van der Velde, tel +31 186 661556) and would recommend him thoroughly.

Alternatively, Gibsons of Brock recently broke away from the Subaru franchise and are now an independent, importing cars on your behalf. Their prices include a 3 year warranty.

As for "you will get top dollar come resale", no-one gets top dollar come resale. If you saved 6 grand off the price of the car, you can afford to drop a bit. Savings aren't as great now, but still not to be sniffed at!

"ImportingImprezas" may interest you...
