Impreza reduntant in WRC from 2010
As they have decided to make all the WRC cars based on the Super 2000 rules to keep costs down. The rules are for 2010 onwards, next year will be the last for the cars in their current guise.
No more turbos in WRC then

It'll be fine. Limiting the electronics and allowing turbos, manifolds and aero kit won't kill off the impreza or anyone else. It'll keep the sport grounded and as in F1, they will always find a way to be fast.

No turbo
2 litre normally aspirated engine, limited revs, standard gearbox etc etc. The Impreza will be too big & heavy surely, the super 2000 cars are derived from smaller models (Punto etc).

Would it be more sensible and cost effective to say that the cars have to be based on a current production car and no adding 4wd to an existing car ?

I'd be more than happy if they just took standard production cars with basic handling, safety and braking mods and rallied them rather than the bespoke plastic exotica every WRC team currently races. Isn't the whole point of rallying to be close to the car consumer market. I haven't watched or followed WRC rallying for many years as the gulf between what's rallied and what rolls off the production line is a gulf apart.

Hmm, cheers for that, bit unsure though?
From the WRC site:
Why aren't the new rules clear?
The e-mail I got sent said no turbo, all seems to be a bit up in the air at the moment!
From the WRC site:
Instead, the WRC kit is believed to be limited to a turbo, revised inlet and exhaust manifolds, a quicker gearshift mechanism (with steering wheel paddle shift) and an aero package consisting of a rear wing and front spoiler.

Liking that idea mate There was a green Metro 6R4 around here a couple of years ago, not seen it in a while but was a very special sight I thought.

FIA stands for Fcuk International Automobiles and competitors unless they are French
The only car that are "also Rans" in the WRC are the only manufactures f 4WD turbo cars SUBARU and MITUBUSI why make a 4WD Turbo car that retricts developement of a 4WD rally car
IMHO

What was wrong with Group A? Motorsport has gone to sh*t since everyone decided that they were too good to run their championship within the existing class framework.
