How do I make Scoobynet my home page. It's currently MSN

I think I will click on the start menu, but from then I am lost.

Depends what operating system you have.
Its normally the first page on your internet options > home page.
Just type in the webpage you want to navigate to first.

In your browser go to File: / Preferences: / Set Home Page:
Something like that anyway.

Assuming ie7

Navigate to the Page you want to set as home page
From the menu bar click "Tools"
At the bottom of the drop down list click "Intenet Options"
Should open a dialogue box on "general" tab
Click "use current"
Click "Apply" and "OK"

all done, shut down ie7 and restart to see if it has set correctly

Done it now thanks.

What about setting a password to stop someone else using the laptop.
How is this done?

takeing that you have Windows XP. Go to start, settings and click control panel, then click user accounts and click on your account, then just click create a password.
