Default 1998 WRC Impreza

Sorry if many of you have seen this video before, but it's a nice 6.35 minute reminder of the days when Subaru actually used to win rallies with the likes of Colin McRae. No music, no commentary and no crashes, just good footage of the 22B-style 1998 WRC car taking corners.

That video just shows what the Impreza used to stand for! The days before Lexus lights, tinted windows, dump valves, loud exhausts and black wheels!
IMO the best days!

Wastegate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The noise is in fact the air compressed by the turbo passing back through the compressor wheel of the turbo after the airflow is abruptly halted by the throttle plate closing, called compressor surge. However, in some cases, i.e. where the throttle plate doesn't open fast enough or is set up to only react to high boost, some chatter will remain. Surge can occur on diesels when the turbo is attempting to pressurize the air at a higher pressure ratio than the compressor wheel can flow at a given speed

WRC Regs started 1997. Subaru won 8 events and the Manufacturers' title that year. I think the Works team campaigned all of their events from 1997 - 2000 with the wide-body 2 door classic shell, but I stand to be corrected!
