Default I saw my old car yesterday...

i saw my old car tootling around yesterday. I pulled the lad over to have a quick chat. He bought it off me nearly 2 years ago. I had a full engine rebuild done and a new gearbox installed. It was mint.

Couldn't believe it when I got up close! It was WRECKED! It had limo black tints all round. Lexus rear lights. Horrible cheap reg plates. 'SCOOBY' letters stuck to the dashboard. It had been badly keyed down the drivers side. Discs on rear were fooked! Worst of all though, he hadn't had it serviced in the 2 years he's had it! After I put a new engine in! Paintwork was also fooked!

Was gutted!

Here's a pic when I had it -

I used to see your old car quite regularly, Nick. The lad that's got it doesn't seem the most clued up TBH.

Gutting obviously, however if you sold it you got the money you were wanting for it. After that it's not really your problem is it?

The not servicing thing has always bugged me, I think I have way too much mechanical sympathy. My dad did seem to drum it into me, but I've always looked after my cars and tend to monitor and replace things before they fail.

As soon as I get a car I service it anyway and keep fully documented history when I own it. If the oil looks a bit ropey I'll change the oil first then run it for a week, then change the oil and a new filter again. It's amazing how clean the oil stays when you do it like this. Just done my wagon again, 6 months ago was the last but I've only done 3,5k miles.

Even when I was young I used to plead with my mate to service his cars, he used to run his rs turbo until it literally rattled there was that little oil in it, I used to have to make him buy some oil when we got petrol.

I know exactly how you feel.

I had a mint RS2K 4x4 a few years ago, it was mint, I did all sorts of mods to it.

I sold it to get a cosworth which was too good to miss out on, but I really didn't want to sell it. But when I someone offered me good money it made sense.

I saw the car about 4 years on, and it was heartbreaking. It had mirror smoked tints on it, the most awful wheels, accident damage unrepaired which clearly had been like it for a while, and so on.

I was heartbroken, why don't peple realise what they have and take good care of it. You don't have to be a car fan to take pride in something, or care of it.

Very true, but it's still sad to see a car that you poured lots of money and attention into go such a way. It had an A4 ring binder brimming with receipts. I bet the last receipt in there was from me! I told him about AS Performance when I sold it, doesn't look like he listened!
