Instead of forking out XXX pounds on harnesses, get a CG Lock device and spend the rest on fuel/service etc...

Homepage - CG-Lock EU - enhancing safety and enjoyment of your vehicle

But if you really want harness then I am sure someone will be along soon to comment and suggest on these.

Three point seatbelts are safer. If you need holding in place then use a CG-Lock on your existing seatbelts. In an accident harnesses are a liability. If youre going to use the car in speed competition then youd be better and safer fitting a suitable seat and then deciding whether to fit one harness to use then, retaining the seatbelts for road use.

Considering your question: Id suggest that you want to fit for no good reason and Id advise against it. Further to that, 3 and 4 point harnesses are useless: no crotch strap - no point.

Look at that: two simultaneous posts recommending CG-Lock.

Not a great deal of point using a 3 or 4 point harness, you really need a 5 or 6 point to prevent submarining. But then you will obviously need chairs to suit.

Nick

Harnesses in a road car are a complete pain in the proverbial. I know people who have fitted them and regretted it, they are far more fiddly to use and when you get in the car, realised you have forgotten something and have to go back in the house you will curse them.

You may also find you have to undo the harnesses to reach stuff in the car that an inertia reel seatbelt would allow you the movement to do.

I would give it serious thought before going down this route.

If it's for road use get an inertia harness (as fitted as standard to various exotica these days)

DONT get a 5/6 point harness unless you've got a cage/half cage ...there's a very good reason why seat belts allow submarining!

I have a harness but I put it ONLY for track as the leather seats are really slippery. I use the harness on top of the seat belt to keep me in place not for safety.
I considered the CG lock but it was the same price has a harnesses from ebay

Really happy with the purchase works incredibly well on the track. Only issue is when you need to reverse as you cant turn to look behind.

Its a 4 point rears goes to the 2 isofix mounts via seat hole. Right side goes to a cable tied to the bottom seatbelt hook braket, left goes to a cable attached around the seat rear mounting point.

I wouldn't use a harness as the only restraint on the road but for track days and the like they are fine for holding you in and make the whole track day thing much more enjoyable. Just remember to close the door before doing the straps up! You can use the rear/front seat belt ancor points. A harness bar is supposed to get around the folding road seat problem, but this means no rear seat passengers while fitted.

never use harnesses with folding seats ever ever.
Even on track never use harnesses with folding seats.

To use any sort of harness you need fixed back seats and a cage

Why is that?

I have the standard inertia ones for the road a 4 point harnesses for the track. I have had bracked drilled for attaching the harnesses to the shell.

I realise that I might snap my neck if I tip it over, but whats with the folding seat business?

Harness strength far exceeds seat recliner mechanism strength.
Bad ****ing news

also, 4 point harnesses are a complete waste of time and money.
