track impreza
Looking to build a track impreza (2004 - 2007 spec car) over the next few months, so obviously have some questions.
With the above in mind, is it best to go for a saloon or wagon?
What are the pros and cons of the 2.0l engine vs the 2.5l?
If I am doing a full engine build from a clean block, is the WRX car a good place to start of would the STi be better? I just think that I will end up replacing all the STi parts anyway...

Your best starting with a fairly cheap JDM car (notably a spec c if your doing track work) and retain the 2ltr engine, its more than a compromise between a single scroll 2ltr and a single scroll 2.5.
Forget the wrx, it really does have to be an STI for what your after, plus most of the parts will be more than adequate for track work (especially the spec c which has all the oil coolers you need already on there).
Still, it wont be cheap, your looking at 11k for a "cheap" spec c (2003 car) so take that into consideration but they are much stronger (STi's in general) for the sort of work your after it doing.

The spec c is the competition version, its 120kg lighter, has engine and transmission oil coolers, less sound proofing, different suspension (springs, arb's etc) different geometry setup (though all 2005 cars onwards now have the same geometry setup).
Its basically the car they use for grp N and grp A cars.
The engines are slightly different with the Spec C's being slightly more aggressive (cams) and a roller bearing turbo v a sleeve bearing one on a normal STi (for quicker spool up) a different ecu (more memory and a couple of additional features available though not really used for the road) and a few other uprated parts.
Its a better out of the box car for what your doing though they are slightly more expensive to buy
