Why you worried about mpg all you need to know is

2.5 better power low down, 2.0 revs higher and has better internals

actually been wondering about this as i have recently had a 2.5 fitted and have wondering if you get a reduction in economy.

thing is, its a bigger engine, but makes lower down power easier? so you need less revs to shift the car about ?

not worried about mpg just interested in what people have experienced economy wise.

Also with the 2.5 sti is the power shove when the turbo comes in similar to that of the 2.0...not sure what was meant by better internals

No defo upgraded mate, you've obviously never driven an Impreza with a 2.5ltr engine to make that comment.

Sat in a friends 2.5 and the torque all the way through the rev range is immense.

Mikkel just had a look at your spec D....beautiful car you got there and the styling is spot on, couple of questions:

1) Where did you get the A line spoiler from?

2) Are the blob eye rear lights a direct replacement for the hawkeye rear items...i don't like the lexus style lights on the hawkeye they look like a halfords job lol

Great car, bet is kicks *** on the road!!

Didn't take long . Seriously though most comments I see reckon the EJ20 is the superior engine, why do you think they still use them in the JDMs. And before you throw a paddy I'm a UK STi owner and am pulling your leg slightly!

Cheers

So the JDM sti hawkeye uses the 2.0 engine? in what way are they superior? is it their reliability or performance?

Thanks, glad you like. Nearly done!

The spoiler is an OEM part that you buy direct from the dealer. £150 with brake light for rear window.

They are a direct replacement. Note: I don't have them yet. Buying them from a chap on here and should have them fitted on the car by next month. Will update photos as have had rear windows subtley tinted too since the summer.

The car is a great all rounder. As a performance car, not much will stay with it between 0 and 70mph and the handling is go kart like even before I've done the ARB and drop links.

It isn't. This opinion is from the days of the classic. There really isn't much in it now. Different build that has it's pros and cons.

Yes. Unless the car is spoilerless from the factory or you buy a new boot this will always be the case. I had the holes filled and the whole boot repainted with the a-line spoiler when fitted.

Have you ever driven a JDM car then? The JDM engine is far stronger than the EJ25. Why do you think they are able to run more power in a safer manner?

I average 22-24mpg around town in my 2.0 JDM. Creeps up to 30 if I behave on motorway runs.

Explain why the engine is far stronger without the stock quote of stronger internals. Also how do you know they can run more power safely?

I have driven a JDM car yes. They are cracking cars but not noticeably different from a 2.5ltr UK model if you ignore the rear windscreen wiper

Better designed crank with it being cross-drilled and nitride coated. Better designed heads with larger valves, more aggressive cams and stronger valvetrain allowing for the 8,000rpm redline. Twin scroll turbo, stainless headers etc etc.

Come and drive my car, I don't think you'll want yours afterwards.

Phone up a few tuners and find out how many will be reluctant to take a 2.5 past the 340bhp mark.

so back to my original question, it seems as though mpg values on the 2.5 are better or similar to that of the 2.0....i suppose driving a 6speed sti on a long motorway run would be more economical than a 5spd wrx?...i imagined the 2.5 bigger engine to be more thirsty.

my 06 WRX will do over 400 miles to a tank (60L) on a long run. and thats not driving slow.
a lot less when having fun, so the 5 seed is not bad, and makes a great mile muncher.
how many people with over 350 BHP use thire car 10 to 12000 miles a year?
it seem a lot of cars are parked most of the time.

I thought the main reason that the JDMs are still 2.0's was that they wouldn't qualify for the WRC if they used 2.5's for the road cars?

2.5s used elsewhere in the world as we have different emmissions levels, etc.

400miles from a tank You sure that's not a TDi you are driving?

I don't think I've ever had 400 miles out of a tank on anything that wasn't a TDi... mine (06STi lightly mod'd) gets ~220-250 normally before I fill up again. It's not really any different since the mods were done either.

Mine does ~10k (+/- a couple of K) as well...

Guess I'd better ask Zen to detune my car then?
Was this the tuner down the pub you talked to?

i'd have to agree with you, the UK's with 7krpm the and torque of the 2.5ltr, on road driving, I would prefer a 5 speed than the 6 speed

As with the old saga of UK/JDM/2.0ltr/2.5ltr

I would prefer a UK 2.5 thana UK 2.0ltr but happier to stick with my 2.0ltr JDM

IMHO
