What would you like a political party to offer?
#1
With the next election imminent, and just in case William or Tony are reading what would you like the next goverment to do?
mine would be as follows :
1) More family friendly policy for businesses, supported by tax breaks from goverment (i.e support for more creches etc)
2) A proper crackdown on more serious crime, and more police on bikes and walking the streets.
3) A more sensible policy to driving offences, and driver education.
4) Higher tax rate for the very high earners.
(like over £100k).
5) To halt the political correctness that gets worse by the day.
6) Legislation that moves the goverment in the UK towards the 21st century. What do I mean? More accountability (no forcing legislation through thats not supported by the population). More use of electronic polls as a trial, i.e. should we adopt the euro? via simple electronic voting stations, or the internet.
7) Legislation that means that a term in office is reduced depending on the majority in the house of commons, so if its quite close then its less than 5 years etc.
that will do for the first year

Sorry to sound negative but does it matter?? Labour will get in again next time and as usual nobody will admit to have having voted for them.
It annoys me that they continually shaft the motorist yet offer no alternatives as public transport is an utter joke. Discussing this with a contractor friend of mine he said he would rather pay £1000 a month than have to use public transport.
I would vote for any party which punishes those who don't want to work and feel the world owes them a living. My girlfriend and I have fairly decent jobs and had to scrimp and save just to afford somewhere to live. My girlfriends family are from Hastings and it seems the norm that if you are female you simply need to leave school at 15 and have a couple of kids (obviously by different fathers) and you will get given a house, money and never have to work a day in your life. Don't try and tell me this doesn't happen because I know a girl exactly in this situation and she has a bigger house than we do and we both work full time.
Rant over, time to get off my soapbox!

Hey JD - you don't know my sister do you? Lives in Hastings - 2 kids by different fathers but she was a bit upset. She got 2 boys which meant she only got a 2 bed flat rather than a 3 bed house if they had been one boy, one girl...

Get Bush in here now.
He'll teach you all about family values.
No more abortions in America now.
That should help make use of all the empty space out there.
And any space not located to making more projects can be used to build some Nukes to protect us from the threat of a third world country gaining nuclear capability.
Tony doesn't wear a baseball cap so theres no way he can relate to me.
Screaming Lord Sutch had it right all the time but you just didn't want to listen.
A little bit left, A little bit right.
You'll never get what you want because nobody knows what that is.

As any good socialist knows, the best way for a government to raise revenue is as follows.
Remove all indirect taxes (i.e. taxes ignore a persons ability to pay them) away. These include VAT, fuel duty, alcohol dutyetc
Replace with a fair incremented scheme of direct tax, so those who can afford to conribute more, do.

Richard F,
Funny you should say that but I have heard conversations like that in Hastings. The woman I was describing earlier seemed quite happy that her kid had asthma as it ment she got more benefits.
If the story you say is true does your sister live in Sidley by any chance??

MMMmmm....
How about
1. Remove all indirect taxes
2. Remove all direct taxes
3. Get all the scroungers to do the work that the govt can get done because it has no money
4. Set lower speed limits, and kick anyone breaking them off the roads for life.
5. Get insurance companies to sponsor vigilanties. i.e. you break my car - I break your face - I get paid for doing so...
6. free petrol for all people called fast bloke
7. Fire all the politicians
Then again, as we don't get to vote for a party which will govern us in Northern Ireland, I don't think anyone will be listening too hard. If you think your govt are bad, take a long close look at ours. Ha ha ha ha........................

I can't beleive that no one has said this before:
1/ tear down ALL speed cameras
2/ Derestrict the m-ways to "reasonable & prudent" given the vehicle driven & road conditions.
3/ Going on from last post, outside lane strictly for the 100+ crew.
4/ Remove all traffic calming measures ( **** suspension, cause pollution, hinder emergency services)
5/ once a week, The police marshall the m25 as it is closed & raced round by whoever wants to go see who can get the best laptime.
6/ Burnouts & donuts to be made 100% legal,
7/Formula 1 to be given back to bbc1
8/ Minister for transport HAS to be a petrol head (not Jabba The Hutt)
9/ Government should propose that the streets of london be made into a street F1 circuit.
They're all vote winners. Realise.

One thing I have thought about suggesting was that the insurance tax(5%?) be waived for all drivers taking and passing an advanced driving test(IAM or RosPA).Would'nt cost a lot and would encourage drivers to take the tutition. Most insurance companies don't knock a lot off(if any) for advanced test passers.

My list (in particular order)
1. Honesty from politicians. This means getting rid of spin doctors and statistics.
2. Reform of all tax legislation. (including finding a better balance of direct vs indirect taxation)
3. Cut red tape. It is not right that small business have to act as unpaid administrators for the governments next best idea.
3. Help small businesses.
4. Reform of the Civil Service (especially the Inland Revenue)
5. Reform of transport policy (including policies targetted at vehicle drivers)
6. Reform of the judiciary.
7. Bobbies on the beat.
8. Target bad drivers rather than speeding drivers.
9. Reform the House of Lords
10. Introduce work fare.
11. Invest heavily in education.
12. Invest heavily in the NHS.
13. Introduce (large!) tax breaks for companies to enourage teleworking.
14. Jail drink drivers.
15. Introduce points system for offences. (Similar to driving points) i.e. 3 burglaries or 2 GBH and that's a 2 year stretch)
16. Reduce quangos.
17. Make all appointments subject to independant scrutiny.
18. Re-introduce the death penalty for certain offences.

Here goes:
SUL price reduction, say 30ppl
Free bottle of Millers with every 50 litres of SUL purchased.
All car theives put on public flogging.
Fatty two jags banished to Inch loss island.
Buy 1 get 1 free on all beer at supermarket all year round.
Harj is made to buy his own car
100 ron fuel introduced.
All self employed to be given massive tax cuts.
Well that`ll do for now, you didn`t really expect a serious answer did you?

1) reduce expenditure on prisoners, they are in prison to be punished not mollycoddled (sp).
2) referendums on major matters of national interest (e.g. euro). a simple and cost effective method of delivering this would be created allowing all people on the electoral role a chance to have their say.
3) incentives to help low income households to take that low paid job and get off their asses.
4) big push for larger companies to take on apprentices.
5) crimes such as burglary, theft, TWOC'ing to be punished by a minimum 6 month prison sentence (see point 1)
6) a study to see what effect cannabis use has on the population to be carried out in holland and if effects are to be found to be no worse than those of say alcohol or tobacco then legalise it and tax it. use the increase in revenue to cut tax on fuel.
(hope not to offend anyone with the above views - maybe they are not all correct but then everyone is entitled to their own opinion (point 7))

Higher taxes for very high earners is a fine idea.
However, I've done work for accountants in the past and many of these high earners will push the envelope to avoid tax. I've seen people get paid in "vouchers", Platinum Sponge, Gold Medallions.....
I know a story about a high profile businessman who had to spend six months working from France after some, erm, 'issues' with the IR.
If you have a tax bill of £10k, would you pay it all or pay an account £2k to have it reduced to £4k and leave you up?
Chris.

How about an admission, finally, that the governments of the world have been involved for decades in a global cover-up over the issue of extra-terrestrial intervention in human evolution/development?

GaryC - Well said, I agree with you 100%. Why should those who work harder pay more tax? Their success is not handed to them on a plate, they have worked for it and as such the benefits they reap should not be taken away.

I'd like them to stop piffling on about "cycling to work" and "using public transport", like we all live in an L.S.Lowry painting, so I go along with tax breaks to encourage telecommuting.
An additional tax disc to be introduced which must be displayed an all vehicles parked outside schools between 08:30 and 09:10, similarly in the afternoons and policemen/wardens to strictly enforce this and the yellow zigzags and 20 MPH speed limit.
Stop companies making people work "9 to 5" thus eliminating rush hour.
The police to have an all year round stop burgling, robbing etc campaign on TV and poster ads, so that criminals have a very real fear of being caught and dealt with.
For society to reintroduce some good old fashioned justifiable intolerance and less PC drivel from the establishment.
To process "asylum" requests within 48 hours before the "seekers" naff off into the network instead of allowing a problem to grow.
Mrs Thatcher wanted a return to "Victorian Values". By Christ socially we got 'em, the UK seems to be getting more like a Dickensian novel every day.
Anyway must dash, got to get the largest goose in all London.

Hahahaha, no not Sidley but she did used to live on Chiltern Drive. Niiiiiice part of town, that and Malvern Way; Farley Bank etc. Not many riots there lately though. Standards must be slipping...
I had a friend who lived in Sidley (in not too bad a part if that's possible) and he was so gutted his folks moved there he called it "North Bexhill"!!

Since Banning Fox hunting is on the agenda, I reckon that all those farmers are gonna want them killed somehow.
So, as more foxes die in traffic accidents than through hunting, all farmers should put the equivalent of special stages in their fields.
They can then pay you to try your luck agaist the foxes.
You could have a points system, which enables you to get back petrol vouchers and new front bumpers.
In time this scheme could be extended to cutting crime and recidivism.
Screen wash will be free.

Flat tax rate, everyone pays 20% of everything they earn and none of this waste of time National Insurance.
Money saved on administration to be pumped back into free services (free child care for working parents, subsidised public transport for all)
Minimum wage raised substantially to a realistic level
I too disagree with this 'you work harder you give it all back' stuff.
