Rattling from boot/back

Rattling from boot/back
Hi all
I get a sort of knocking noise from the boot area at low speeds, I thought it was some loose trim, but I read somewhere that this could be the DCCD?

Hi, you don't say which MY your scoob is, but as you have a DCCD and therefore possibly a late model car, it sounds like the well known rear shock problem that affects the majority of new age scoobs.
Check for stiffening of the rear shocks by standing with your back to the rear wheel arch and lifting the car very slightly from the wheel arch. You'll probably feel the shock give way with a jerk rather than smooth extension. Repeat for the other side.
The only solution appears to be replacement of the affected parts.

There may well be other possible causes, but these are the only common ones I'm aware of as they have happened to me.
Somebody on SN with more knowledge/experience may be able to give you more info though.

Thanks, what was the issue/symptoms with your rear diff (I'm keen to identify any problems while still within warranty!)

The car went in for a service shortly after this, and i said to Dave (West - Risborough 4x4) about the noise. He struggled to find it too, and completly stripped the rear suspension IIRC, but after his missus drove him down the road with him curled up in the boot, it turned out to be simply the boot latch that needed tightening. Sometimes the obvious things are the first to be overlooked.
Noise went, and i was happy again

I had these symptoms for about 4 weeks and was going out of my mind trying to find what the source was. It only made the knocking noise below 10mph and it defo wasn't the shocks cause i have had those go previously so know the warning signs for that. I checked pretty much every bolt and part on the rear of the car over this period but to no avail; and in the end had exhausted my skills.

I had one side replaced as part of the 20k service on my scoob this year using a KYB (I think) unit. I was told they will outlast the OEM units and they're cheaper as well. It may not be the best solution in terms of handling to have a slight imbalance in shock reaction side to side, but I have to say I haven't noticed any significant ill effects as a result.
It may well be that a track day would show up some undesireable after effects, but for regular road use the car is still planted as ever.
