Best Turbo for 400+ BHP.
Hi all, now i'm used to the 350bhp mark it's time to go for 400+. Problem is there are a lot of turbo's out there capable of doing this but I need a little advise/recommendations, I know I've got to get bigger Injectors and Exhaust Headers I want to try and keep the top mount as long as possible, I've been told GT30 Turbo is one of the best, but that was from the supplier and they would say that.
What do guys think? Max power i'm looking at acheiving at the moment is 400-420 with no internal engine mods I want something that spools quick and is very reliable.
Thanks in advance.

Hi , MD321H , SC42 or SC46 From scoobyclinic these are 400+bhp turbos, but will depend on spec of your engine to wether you will achieve 400 mark, I think scoobyclinic do a 420bhp performance package deal for the 03 STI

The green will outpower the H by some margin, its more comparable to the T. But the H will hugely outspool the green.
On a 2ltr i used a green and it was awesome to use. I really rated it and loved the way the car drove on it.
However if you just want 400 and not much more and want maximum useablity id go for the H.
It has the best spool and will ultimately make the best daily driven turbo on a 2ltr.

speak to Martyn or Alan at Alan Jeffery - Engine Tuner about the MD195S or MD555 range of turbos.
My 2004 STi made 420 with pump fuel on an MD195S at 1.5 bar.

Some good views here.
Also bear in mind the "laggyness" of turbos, which may affect your Torque figs. It's good to have 400 BHP but you also want to have a resonable torque figure which will give you that kick feeling.
Torque is generally limited on a 2 ltr staight block (i.e. with standard internals) but with the right set up and mapping, you should still be able to achieve decent figs.

Combine the AVCS of your STi with GTSPEC headers and a MD321H and you should just see 400bhp with great response.
A MD321T will see you comfortably at 400bhp losing some response compared to the H with peak torque around 4500rpm. A GT30R will achieve a higher power output but will lose out on response to the T.
Before anyone jumps on saying that those turbo's mentioned will provide higher outputs please bare in mind the OP states standard engine (so assuming pump fuel) and STi TMIC.
On a built engine where boost levels can be elevated safely expect more from all three turbo's.
