JDM classic Tax question-confirmation
I want to buy a late JDM classic (say for arguments sake its a MY99)
I know its been done before - had a look at the old threads and it seemed a bit inconclusive
My conculsion was is that -
If the car was registered in the UK before March 31st 2001 the tax is cheaper
If the car was registered in the UK after March 31st 2001 the tax gets steep
The tax band the car will fall into depends on the date registered in the UK not the date of Manufacture - Correct?
´´If the car was imported under the older SVA rules = Cheap Road Tax
If the car was imported under the later ESVA rules = High Road Tax.´´
This was mentioned in one thread - was the change date from SVA to ESVA March 31st 2001 then?
Thanks
Steve

It should be registered as PLG depending on the date of first use. A car built in 1998 and registered here in 2008 can not be (correctly: I know that its been happening) placed in a high emission tax band, because the car hasnt been type approved, so there can not be accurate emissions figures obtained from a new manufacturer-supplied vehicle.

Just checked Ł185 for the year.
Mines a 96 N plate,
date of first registration 01/02/96
date of first registered in the UK 01/05/07
tax class private/light goods

So given that info Slipstream - that makes the content of my first post bollocks LOL.
So I am safe to buy a JDM registered after 2001 and will still pay 185ish tax

DVLA use the manufactured date for cars over 10 years old (imports only), not the registerd in UK date.
I just imported a 93 wrx through a agent a few months ago. Its taxed using plg rules.
If you pick a car that is under 10 years old it will have to have a esva and thats when they can apply the new emssion based rules on cars maufactured after 2001.
All UK cars are banded using the first registered date.

My car is a MY2002 JDM WRX-R and it is taxed as a PLG
