Default R32 Golf v 330 BHP classic

I was very suprised at the acceleration of an R32 I had an encounter with the other day.

My RB5 is producing almost 330 horses and it does feel seriously quick every time I put my foot down, but the R32 was alot quicker than I expected.
From sat behind the R32 from a standing start, by 3rd gear I had just nosed infront. Shouldn't I have been gone?

Are the R32's 246bhp and 4 wheel drive?

Chances are the R32 was modified/remapped. I have a similar powered Classic and I had to keep backing off when "following" a 57 plate one recently

A 340 BHP MY00 UK Turbo I mapped simply drove away from an R32 with both under full acceleration. He also did a 12.1 sec quarter mile in it at about 115/116 mph.

The R32 was tuned or we have had inflation of power figures over the last few years

My mate had a R32 chipped, bloody quick cars when tweaked. On a straight line upto 3rd gear both cars where equal, then the scoob pulls away. On the twisties the scoob just left it in its rear view.

They're an N/A car...max tuning/exhaust will do is like 20bhp/20 torques. No big shakes for a 300+bhp impreza.

I my defence I didn't get off to a good start as I was sat behind it and had I launched more aggressively then I would have probably took off his back bumper.

Its always harder from behind as you will have to wait for the other car to move first. If you were ahead in third, you managed to come from behind with a later start, which isn't too bad. Side by side it would have been more comprehensive.

You could always fit a bigger turbo

No thanks wrighty338, I've moved to the Dark Side, they make oodles of power with few mods and don't seem to break. I've forgotten how to map Subarus now.

Exactly, plus depending on what turbo you are running... there's turbo lag as well when chasing off the line which a N/A or supercharged car doesn't have to deal with.

Saying that, the R32 is a heavier car than a classic, 1600KG compared to the classic which hovers around 1250KG.

Basically unless it has a nice supercharger/turbo kit... you should of trashed it, even if he spent mucho bucks tuning it to be N/A

veedubs seem to like like to be supercharged
a mate of mine had a supercharged MK gti golf and that was so rapid
too much power as wheelspan in 3rd so easlily
if that bad boy was supercharged then it could have even had the same sort of power as you and no lag like a turbocharged car
i thought i was being out done up a hill one day buy a 106+ GTI only to here him dumping off, damn thing was turbo charged
found out later on that the guy who had it was running 197bhp on the rollers in the little go kart!

Volkswagen Golf R32 (05 on) - Facts & Figures - Parker's

The r32 eeerrrrmmm beat them in my classic when standard.
330 RB5 should have left it dead. Or must have been a 400+ bhp version

Golf R32 165.5 bhp/tonne = less than a std UK classic.

340 bhp classic impreza about 270 bhp per tonne.

Shouldn't have too many problems!

I don't understand how you can say that they're very tuneable? They're a naturally-aspirated engine. No turbo. Fair enough you can whack a turbo or SC on, but hardly makes them very tuneable.

cossie-nutter: Who on earth did your remap? Just a remap? Revo showing 210 to 280 ft/lb Performance ECU Tuning Software by Revo Technik, AMD about the same. Only Jabba left and doubt they can squeeze an extra 150ft/lb out of a map!
