if the front windows are tinted from factory you can't legally go any darker, that is to say the police wont let you go darker! but it will pass an mot as vosa wont make testers buy the equipment to check this as not many cars have tints, and a quote to me was the police will deal with them for now!

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be
transmitted through them.
If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light,
then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.

you can only tint them to factory standard, ie if yours are clear, then legally you can stick a green tint in, but you should check out the 'dirty windows act' thats what the police get you on

Isnt it now illegal to apply a tinted film? In fact, I believe that its illegal to apply any film, because of the poorly worded law. Its made worse because its applied retrospectively too, so people with formerly legal tints on their front windows are now driving in an illegal vehicle.

Wind the window down halfway on a sunny day and compare the view through the open top to that through the glass.
If there is a tint, you will see it clearly and if you have a tint, you can't add to it. There's good reason for this and that is road safety so you can see what's going on.
If you tint over the top and have a shunt, the consequences can be no insurance cover and far worse if you kill a motorcyclist. It is just not worth it.
