Question

I'm half expecting this to be moved, but see it as a general question?

I got pulled over by the fuzz last Jan for going through a red light.

I requested a court hearing, but included a letter explaining what had happened and how I don't deserve prosecuting.

Anyway, I got a letter after a month telling me that my details had been passed on and I would get a court date in the post.

It has been over a year now and I've heard nothing. A friend of mine got a court hearing after 18 months and got crucified in court for a similar thing.

Is there a maximum time they can leave it before prosecuting you?

I'm inclined to keep my head down and hope I don't hear anything.
Touch wood.

18 Months

I was told by a solicitor (a friend) dealing with this sort of thing, that if you didnt hear after 6 months then they could not prosecute!!!

I did a similar thing last April (got told I'd gone through a red light, etc) - sent the letter etc - waited until October and that was the cut off date for them to prosecute so my friend said they could not touch me!

I certainly would not chase them about it....

Elvis,
For certain motoring offences (and it sounds like yours is caught by this)it's 6 months from the date on which evidence sufficient in the opinion of the prosecutor to warrant proceedings came to his knowledge. That's not always 6 months from the date of the offence. There is an absolute long-stop (in the same category of cases)of 3 years from the offence date.
I'd be surprised if you heard anything more.
