Question How much for a garage to fit braided hoses and discs?

I've got a set of Goodrich braided hoses and a set of the Godspeed front grooved discs sat in my garage waiting to go on the car; and it's due for a service next week at the local Subaru dealership (Bulldog Twyford).

I've been quoted £225 inc VAT, labour and brake fluid to fit the hoses and discs on top of whatever the service will cost (it shouldn't be an expensive one (famous last words!) - just an oil change plus anything else they find at the time).

Does this sound like a fair price to you guys or should I wait and try and do the discs myself and get a garage to fit the hoses separately?

I'm in the Bracknell / Camberley area.

If that is inclusive of the service and vat then it sounds not too bad to me

Nope - service £175 inc VAT & Labour - so it's another £225 on top of that

That's far too much, go to a specialist and pay for two hours labour, £60 per hour at least I'd say.

I've just had front and rear disks and pads fitted for £90 (2 hours labour). I was also quoted £70 for fluid and labour to fit braided hoses, I reckon you should be looking at about £120-£150 max for this work.

the dealer price you've been qouted sounds about right, i paid £290 all in for an oil change (supplied my own oil), filter, brake fluid and 2.5 hours for fitting my braided hoses.

so really down to you if you want to save a bit of money getting a specialist to do your brakes, great if one's on your doorstep but a bit of a false economy if you've got to travel.

I've not had it done (yet), so can't say for sure, but my local Subaru specialist who I trust completely says it should take under an hour to fit braided lines. It might be worth phoning around a few of the recognised names on here to get some quotes.

Giles, if you like I can give you the number of someone when I see you tomorrow, he would happily give you advice even if you don't get the work done with him.

That seems steep to me, it's not complex at all and should only fall into the hourly rate which should not take to long.

I'll check with him to confirm that time. Think I'll get it done soon, as you say it is supposed to improve feel.

Do it yourself, it really isnt hard at all, the discs are very easy to swap over and the braids are just as easy. take you 2/3 hrs i reckon

do it, you wont regret it and you`ll feel proud you did

Discs I agree with but braided hoses can be a pig, its not the refitting its getting the rubber hose ends off the solid brake pipes, after years of road grime/corrosion etc your highly likely to break something so having it at a garage is a better option as they will have the flaring tool etc remake the end off,
Just my 2p worth but ive been there so speaking from the T shirt side of things lol

just to give you an idea, i had a 10 pot caliper conversion fitted with discs pads brackets braided lines new fluid for 90 quid, had to pop back and have it bled again cos it was a bit soft for my liking but they didnt charge me for that, and other than the pads not being the right compound for my style of driving, i am well happy.

It shouldn't take a garage 2.5hours in my opinion ...

check out this vid (I had mine done for £50 for the labour) looks doable ish for someone with medium ability!
