Yes!! IMO You would be mad . Dont see any performance benefits, MPG same or possibly worse. God knows how much money you would lose in the bigger picture on the STI. And for what.? A car that drives nice and does not rattle?.. The ST is a nice car and I have driven a couple, just not quite in the same league as your STI in my opinion.

Adding things up I dont think it would be long before you were hankering after the power and general capabilities of your STI again and dreaming of how things used to be.

Why dont you spend what money you have on mods to your current car and enjoy.

I dont post on here often buddy, but felt compelled to reply to this one. Whatever you decide It is your decision and I do hope you are happy with it though.

£12700 for an 06 STI trade-in?

That is a good price TBH. I'm struggling to get anyone to offer me £10k trade-in for my 05 STI

I say a good price. It's a cr@p price, but in today climate £12700 is good.

As others have said, struggling to see why you want to change to be honest?
Trade in price is good in the current climate, suspect that's because your trading for another performance car though, that they are probably struggling to shift.
A mate works for VW and they have 5 R32's on their forecourt currently, can't shift them

You could sell your car privately for £15k no trouble. I think most are still asking around the £15-£16k mark for STIs with low mileage like yours.

Don't do it!!!!!!!...I was looking to buy a brand new one last year for 17.5k!!!! then spend another 3500k on it to get the power to 330bhp.

Don't get me wrong it is a good car, as most modern front well drive cars (VW GOLF, SEAT LEON, etc etc) they handle very well and very good around roundabouts and the twisty bits................but i came to my sense's and got my scoob for about 5k less + another 120bhp..........

The interior nice thou .........if you want ford get a cossey

They're asking those prices, but none are selling. I reckon it's a fair deal although I bet you could get some free servicing or something chucked in. The dealer has to make a profit so you won't get much more in part ex, but think about stuff the dealer can give you that won't cost him much, but would cost you a lot to buy.

If you fancy it, I'd say go for it. Don't listen to those people who say you'll lose loads of money on your car. You've already lost it. The only money it will cost you to change is the cash you have to add to the part ex value.

You are paying good money to downgrade - I could understand if you were going to a diesel with better mpg which would hold its value, but to trade for a slower performance car with not vastly better residuals doesn't make sense to me.

I honestly think you would end up being one of those people who post on here saying 'Only 2 months but I miss my Scoob'... etc

It's interesting how people think the Focus is a lesser car. Slower, yes. 2wd vs 4wd. But also more practical and easier to live with day to day. It all comes down to whether you think the best car is the one with the most grip and power.

06 STi to a 07 ST with you adding in £1800 ... sounds to me! I'd be interested to hear why you might be thinking of doing it though.

Why?

Why swap an icon for a jumped up shopping kart which is what the Focus is. Don't do it as you'll regret is big style. It would be bad enough as a straight swap but you having to pay for the privilage as well.

True, Focus will be easier to live with and still offers decent performance and handling. The STi though is certainly the quicker and more interesting car IMHO.

Maybe the original poster would get better advice if they stated why they want to change? e.g 'I want something a bit less hardcore which still has decent performance, sick of having to slow to 2mph over speedbumps etc.'

If it was me, I would keep the STi.

Well, I do think that the ST is a good car ... looks good, especially so in white & sounds good too (my car doesn't have the rumble so I wouldn't miss it anyway ). Probably pretty fast in a straight line although shouldn't be a patch on the STi.

I like to change cars regularly too hence the Spec C being up for sale ...

TX.

Beal, it sounds like you just prefer the ST. If it feels right, go for it.

Just don't expect us to understand

Weird you should say this but on my way to work I must have seen four focus st's with for sale signs on the back of them, in one week. The new rs is coming out soon and these boy's want to buy them. The value of the st's will plommit, when the new rs comes out. Hold onto your money mate! IMHO

Just another thought. Have you enquired about how much it would cost to get a new one? You may get a bigger trade in and a new car for not much more.

And just to reiterate, your car is only worth what you can get for it. It may have cost miles more than £12k a year or so ago, but today it is worth something different. You will not be losing any money by changing other than the extra cost on top of the part ex. I would suggest that the chances of you finding a buyer prepared to pay £15k+ are extremely remote indeed.

And finally...I don't think residuals of STs will be adversely affected by the arrival of the RS. The STs are available at a significant discount, but you won't get a penny off an RS. In effect the STs are £10k cheaper than the RS. I agree that you will see ST owners switching to the RS, but for a lot of people, particularly at the moment, it will be a step too far. You could see a growing market for second hand STs that can be adorned with replica RS bits and bobs.

It's only a downgrade if you value grip and power above all else!

The ST is a great drive, and probably less hassle from police etc if you value that.
Insurance and running costs will deffo be cheaper, but its up to you.
Both are great cars, and the ST is plenty fast TBH. Life is not a drag race!
Let us know what you end up doing. But get 2nd hand as they are dropping so fast, and the RS will hurt residuals even more.
