1. headlights (so you can see)
2. brakes (so you can stop without warping and wearing them out)
3. PPP (make better use of the headlights and brakes)
4. Eibachs/Prodrive springs or LEDA (to go round corners more quickly reducing brake wear)
5. Decatted exhaust system (make better use of 1,2,3,4)
6. Driving lamps and protectors (distance yourself from the Max Power boys in their Novas and for safer use of 1,2,3,4,5 at night)

I would upgrade the headlight bulbs www.powebulbs.com, very cheap. I really cant see very much with my WRX at night, and it's dark up here a lot.
I have the boot liner, and it's good - melting snow can fall into the boot when you open the lid, so you just remove the plastic liner and dry it. Much better than soggy carpets.
On performance front it's PPP or nothing, otherwise the warranty is gone.

If PPP is too dear buy an exhaust...
A full exhaust gives around 244bhp, and 233lb ft Torque, whereas a PPP gives about 251bhp and 235lb ft. Also you should still keep the subaru warranty on everything except the exhaust!

POLARBEARIT:
are yoiu sure about that with the waranty, cos if you put on a new exhaust which produces more power then doesn't that put more strain on the engine. In which case the dealer may not accept it under warranty?
I justy dont know - its not a trick question.

Be carefull about ANY modification, you you have to inform your insurance company (see threads elsewhere regarding this matter on Scoobynet).
I am taking delivery of a new Silver WRX on or after 1st March. I will be asking my insurers about a Prodrive rear silencer and I am sure they will try to sting me on price. Never "messed" with my current MY99 because it is good enough for me as it is

Mark,
Generally, the standard WRX is a very competent car. My suggestions are as follows and take no account of your level of disposable income (or savings);
- Get car mats, the carpets on mine were threadbare after 4k miles (1st deffo upgrade).
- Decide if you like the rear spoiler, options are many and vary greatly in price (should be 1st upgrade unless you like the standard sculpture).
- Hope that you ordered bucket seats, if not you're cancel the trip to the caribean for the change.
- Lights, stick with them as more options will become available in the fulness of time (jump mow and you may regret it!).
- Can you handle tramlining steering?, doubtfull and the solution is a black art to die for (18" rims + massive debate on rubber, replacement suspension = £3k).
- More power and torque, question what you are trying to achieve and how much dosh you are prepared to spend (deep breath needed here).
- Cosmetics, we are all individuals here. Take no advice and create what you want (see tramlining for wheel opportunity).
- Upgrade brakes, the only way to drive faster on a non-straight road.
I could go on, but you need to start telling us who will be the first beneficiary of you folding.

If you're a bit skint I'd recommend a Prodrive or Scoobysport (or similar) backbox - no noticeable performance improvement but makes the car sound great, and as nature intended

Hi Mark-TM , fellow NI wrx owner here.
All i've done to mine so far:
Eibach springs
BB and centre section
replaced front reflectors and indicators
new rear wing on the way
Springs and exhaust from Performance Subaru in Coleraine. The exhaust was a special offer @ £295 when i bought it and numerous ppl (inc dealer) have said the noise is spot on (not too loud).
Above all enjoy!

To my surprise the rear spoiler (SS biggie) made my WRX01 so much nicer @ high speeds. Stability is much better now, at very high speeds it's a different car. High speed braking is also improved as if i got a braking-chute. Lost a bit of topspeed though but thats a fair trade-in for the amount of gained downforce.
(as standard Dutch cars don't have spoiler whatsoever)
First mod should be (at least) a backbox (channeltunnelstyle) Feels like walking with three pair of socks in your knickers.
