They push around 189bhp give or take the odd bhp
Not too bad for a 1.6 turbo

They are not too bad. Would rather have an Astra VXR if I had to choose between them. Everyone's got to start somewhere however - They will be awesome little cars for young lads/lasses. I remember not being able to afford the insurance on a R5 GT Turbo when I was young, so got a XR2i instead. Different world performance wise, but I still thought I was the dogs bollocks.

Not bad for a small car then, wouldn't have stood a chance if i span the turbo up though.

A mate of mine had a play with one in a punto gt runing 2bar boost =129bhp/169lbf.ft on 3 cylinders (shaged cam), but stayed with it. p.s the punto was slow as **** too.

Here we go again...

Reality check: It is a good little car for what it is and will be a lot of fun to drive. Also, as stated it will be one hell of a hot hatch for a young driver/car enthusiast. It is a 1.6 FWD turbo and we can see it's claimed stats on paper above.

It is not in the same league as an Impreza STI, even a rare standard one lol

Let's not have a silly discussion about putting a different engine in it now so it can keep up... pleeeeeeaaaasssseeeeee, nooooooooo... not again.

i don't doubt that at all maybe not quite sticking to his bumper, all this would have been on country rds i'd imagine, where its hard (and dangerous) to use a cars potential. put these cars on a track and it'd be bye bye corsa vxr.

I have a feeling that the driver of the 05 sti was just poodling away on forth gear, whilst the Corsa driver must have been ragging the **** off his car

i quite often do that, just to keep them behind nothing to daft just quick enough to know their thrashing theirs to keep up, then i'll get to a 30 through a village and low and behold they overtake and disappear and i'm left ruing the chance to have blown that saxo away

Drove one along with some other Smacs members at a recent VXR trackday at Oulton - thought it would be a pile of s*** but whilst not having the straightline shove of the Astra, it was very chuckable on track and pretty quick too.

They actually handle pretty well for FWD. For £1799, Thorney Motorsport take them up to just shy of 250bhp with another 55lb/ft of torque to boot. Not bad for a little 1.6 in a lighter car and enough to worry/embarrass plenty on here I suspect. There's also a stage 3 pack in development that will lift them to not far off 300bhp - not to be sniffed at.

If you think vauxhalls go fast round corners well for FWD car your haven't driven much FWD sports cars then.

Compare them to a Golf, Honda and Focus even a Megane

Driven 3 of the above and you're dead right, they are all good/great handling FWD cars. However, note I said it handles 'pretty well' for FWD car.

only vauxhall that handles well is the vxr220 (handling by lotus) and the monaro (holden)

Once on the move and in dry conditions the in-gear acceleration should be 'brisk' to say the least. In normal British weather however on muddy, rutted roads, not so pretty
