Default Buying a JDM Import What docs to expect?

Can anyone assist me, im looking to buy a second hand Import STi. The car is already in the Uk, SVA'd and registered and a V5 doc present i beleive. What else should i be looking for from a legal document perspective. I'm assuming an SVA confirmation doc and some form of document which indicates that the duty has been paid? Any examples or links to the specific docs or relevant document numbers would be a great help so i can see what i should be looking for before i hand over my hard earned.

Many thanks

if its on a uk reg, hpi if it comes back clear and they have the V5, thats it. if they have import docs from the auction, and the bimta (i think its called that) even better.

cheap hpi here: https://www.mycarcheck.com/

Thanks for the reply bud, So its as simple as that then, if its got a V5 then are we saying that the duty etc will have been pre-paid prior to DVLA registration and no other docs will be required?

ESVA and customs (C386) documents go when you get a V5. The fact that you have a V5 shows that everything else was in order. The importer may have photocopies, but they neednt have (along with copies of the de-reg & translation and with the all important auction report). I used to copy everyhting, but Im overly thorough (****). Actually, I wasnt ****, I was honest and legitimate: so Id question anyone who doesnt have the auction report.

This is a BBS mind, so how do you know Im right.....?

As above. I have the BIMTA, V5, Jap Service books (may as well be cookery receipes for all I know), Tax and MOT.

Call someone like Iain Litchfields or David Hendry (in the South) for more info if you knowledge is not satisfied!

Thanks chaps

I'll check these before I purchase, anyone know any cheap websites for checking outstanding vehicle finance?

One more thing, do JDM cars have "Subaru" stamped into the top of the rivvets that hold the VIN plate in place like UK cars do. The last 2 I have viewed have not had these, i expect this is only done for the, dare I say it, dodgy UK market.

Cheers
